Extremely frustrating as a mere supporter watching how this saga is unfolding.
On one hand we desperately need a stadium and we are now promised one (again) but how the hell one will fit at BV and to what standard, I don't know.
On the other hand, it goes completely against the grain to see how some individuals are going to profit hugely from this, which, if it comes off will be an absolute scandal and one which is surely worthy of some sort of investigation screened on t.v.
I'm an ex cop and I've locked up hundreds of people throughout my old career with better morals and standards of decency than a lot of those involved in this matter. Give me a good old fashioned thief anyday.

Quote: Scarlet Pimpernell "Why the sudden concern for the Newmarket area. This is new for many of you or is your sudden empathy with the area more to do with the council than the area.
If the full development including the stadium and other related builds had gone ahead how much more of the green belt would have been reclassified and destroyed. I don’t remember any concerns being raised then in fact many of you were openly appalled by the group set up to stop the development.
Newmarket is let’s face it in the wrong place, it borders Leeds and brings us nearer to Castleford. Belle Vue is our home and that is the site that will generate greater spectator numbers not a development that would be in the middle of large industrial units.
I get it you don’t like the council but please don’t try to use your sudden concern for the people of Newmarket as an excuse.'"

Sorry just read your post which I believe is a response to my earlier post. Unlike you I have no hidden agenda but a genuine concern for the area where I am from. I'm proud to be from Stanley, Wakefield and played rugby throughout my childhood for Stanley Rangers who have links to Trinity. My family have lived in the Moorhouse and bottomboat areas of Stanley for about 70 years. My grandfathers worked at the Newmarket Colliery up until the late 1970s. I actually believe this deprived area of Stanley would have benefited from the Community facilities and potential employment of the Newmarket development 1 mile away. I myself was born and raised in a house on St.Peters Crescent. I also now work within local authorities and I am fully aware of how they can operate in a dysfunctional way and be influenced by big business.

Sorry Pimpernell but, you're wrong and or mis informed.
Go back to the time when the Newmarket plan was passed.
Jobs, facilities and a ground for Trinity to play in, it's all in black and white, in the papers, on tv, on the radio.
The only reason that the message may have faded and some may have become confused, is the years that have passed since the public enquiry.

You do seem to have an agenda, which is significantly different to most Trinity fans and perhaps you have some connection to person's outside of the Trust but, you are massively wrong on this one.
Of course, all Trinity fans want whats best for Trinity but, EVERYONE involved at the outset was looking for something more than just a ground for Trinity and the 15000 signature petition, blatantly ignored after the event, was just as much to do with some meaningful jobs and some decent sporting facilities for ALL, hence the COMMUNITY STADIUM.

Give yer head a shake

I just think the whole Community Stadium seems to have been lost . I'm pretty sure for some of the Wakefield public its been an issue between WMDC and Wakefield Trinity , with the rest showing little or no interest .
Its amazing that the Daily Starr seem to be the only paper to have shown any kind of interest, and why the Wakey Express didn't run with a number of stories off the back of the national papers reporting seems unexplainable.
WMDC could and should have provided a sporting village located at the pugneys but all they have done over the last couple of years is to charge for parking. Remember the sun lane baths knocked down leaving no swimming in the City but replaced with a car park.
Sport and sporting activities within our Citys in the decline and the council seem more than happy and in some cases assist the situation.

Sun Lane got rebuilt a few years ago and is a well used modern facility I agree with everything else, Wakey Express is a waste of time haven't bought it in years. Is it's motto "backing Wakefield" should be "councils rent boys"

yes I know the sun lane baths got re built but how long did it take, and how much money raised from parking. It left the city without a swimming pool for a good number of years.

Without wishing to turn this into something even more political, what we have currently, following so many years of austerity cuts reminds me of the nonsense that went on in the 80, when competitive
sport was discouraged, so as not to hurt "little Jonny's" feelings when he was last pick every week, which has seen obesity levels balloon.
The austerity cuts that we've had are decimating sporting facilities, especially in Wakefield and the community facilities are probably more important now, than when the plans for Newmarket were hatched.

Sadly, they look likely to be watered down (if they happen at all) and if we take away Wakefields only professional club, this will have a further damaging effect on the health of our youngsters.
The Hepworth and the other arty stuff is great for the City but, we need to get folk off their backsides and actually doing something.

Wrencat you have touched on something that really gets to me. These Cretins that run our City always like to blame someone else. More often than not its usually cuts by central government and particularly more so when the Tories are in power. There is no doubt cuts have happened and they have had an effect. However when these cretins have been given an opportunity to create some money in order to spend in a way that benefits their public, they are more than happy to let it slip through their hands and into the pocket of greedy developers.

IMO the place where the cuts should be taking place is in the salaries of those who are proving to be completely inept at performing their civic duties. Instead they keep getting payrises whilst services for the electorate are cut back further.

As for Newmarket and Belle Vue, sadly I will not believe anything that comes from their (Council, Manni, YC, SRW) mouths any more until I am actually standing watching my first game in a new stadium at one location or the other. This is not a dig at MC or the Trust who I believe are doing everything within their power to get something positive out of this fiasco, however I think we all can see now that it will never be anything like what was promised.

Don’t forget little old Huddersfield who also support a premiership football team icon_thumb.gif as well as a SL team.
