He also gave extensions on the back of a couple of decent seasons.

| Quote: J.T "I agree with the players bit 2 per team is enough as you say. British coaches are way behind the Aussies, as is the British game, and I'd be looking at an Aussie in charge with a young British coach learning the ropes alongside them with a view to havfing quality British coaches in the future. This would ensure that the young British talent that we all want to see would be being developed by the very best. Look at the candidates for the England job to see how poor the British coaches are at the moment.'"
Well said 100% right.

Taking out EU laws and the like, which would be nice in this case, would any of our overseas 'stars' pass a quality threshold?

| Quote: vastman "But then this is a club who's supporters choose to venerate John Harbin who led the club to 10 concecutive SL losses - says it all. '"
I don't think that's necessarily true, some respect what he did, but I've never read anyone say he was some kind of Messiah, in the same way supporters 'choose to venerate' say Korkidas.
Harbin was the only option at a time when the club was skint. He did a good job with the players he had, and without him, we may not even exist! From that 2001 squad, only Brooker, Westwood, Poching, Ellis and Price (from memory) are better than what we have now - maybe even Davis, but that's a choice between a player who was past it, and no scrum half at all!
No-one will say he was a better coach than Kear overall, but he could certainly motivate a bigger bunch of NFP/Championship players than the squad Kear has now.
Still, 2 wins in 13 is hardly a great thing to shout about.
Forget Harbin though, look at how badly history seems to treat McNally. We played some great rugby under him, did well in that playoff run under him and yet he is slagged off time after time, even more galling after how he was toadied up to when posting on the old official board. (Always helps when you're at the club to have family members posting on the board, but when you've gone, forget it!)
Was McNally's run of bad form, in hindsight, that bad compared to having Smith take the hotseat when he was woefully under-qualified for the job?

A bit of sense. I had the same arguments on here re McNally as I now have regarding Kear i.e I'm happy for them to be replaced but only by a superior/better option. God forbid we go back to the days of Tony Smith/Peter Roe. If Kear went I'm pretty sure we would just carry on with Broadbent taking over all first team duties and no replacement for Kear which would be cheap suicide.

Selective memory there i think.
Mcnally was in charge of our best ever SL squad and earned himself coach of the year and well deserved too!
He then made a massive mistake by bringing over a fitness coach called adam trypass. The team went downhill fast and it was obvious to everyone that they were totally unfit. Mcnally also changed with the coach of the year title and refused to accept advice and stuck by trypass. He eventually lost the dressing room and it was time to go.
I think if Mcnally had not let the coach of the year title go to his head and recognised his massive mistake with trypass and quickly done something about it, he could still be coaching in SL.
