| While the current economic situation is so volatile i have to ask who would you side with in this situation
Player A who is looking after himself and his family (As the majority of us are now)
Or
WAkefield Trinity RLFC (under mr Carter} who knows the extent of what it costs to run the club based upon income or lack of it
As a business owner I know where my vote would go and while it may be harsh sometimes cuts have to be made and you maybe have to take one step back to take two steps forward.
A rugby career is short and earnings have to be maximised I fully understand that but this is unprecedented times and if you sign for a club line wakefield in the first place you are probably not guaranteed top wages so then why expect to not have cuts when the club has no income.
For me the club always comes first players have a shelf life and while we should look after them as much as possible the club should still be there when they have gone
An incentive to players could be based around league position at end of season I don’t know the exact figures for league positions or if that has altered with covid but maybe bonus could be paid pro rate to wage cuts to finish higher up,the table
When all is said and done thousands have died during this terrible situation and I have lost a friend and a family member but life has to go on and an agreement between club and players has to be reached that is realistic my one hope is that the players union are talking to clubs having an understanding of there income / expenditure and not just talking to as a blanket representation for all players no matter what club they play for.

I agree but there is only so much that can be passed onto the supporters because I believe we already pay more than most clubs when additional items like bar access and drink prices are added.

| Quote: PopTart "But there are potential loans and other ways of bridging the gap.
You might not like the terms given there are other ways for the club to support you.
For what it's worth I would take the cut but only if it were equal. I wouldn't like it if I was taking a bigger cut than others.
I don't mind there being a lower limit though.
Without knowing all the details it's poor form to criticise the senior player.
We have no idea why this is happening or whether it is even just paper talk.'"
If my company said you need to take a pay cut or the company could go under then id agree has so.e money is better than none i feel for any player who has to drop some money but surley its better to have some than none at all as been stated there will be a fair few players looking for clubs come the end of the season so why risk employment now..not having a pop at any player has i get them but formost to myself is the future of wakefield trinity

They should try being self employed.

When you say "passed on" here we are [ionly[/i talking about refunds for season tickets - and many on here - like myself - would not want to receive one.
As for going to the bar and drinks, that's a personal choice.
Some of the season ticket holders that I go with don't go to the bar etc.

Quite right BG, I've heard it a few times from some of his mates that BLM never goes to the bar

| Trying not to be emotive about the issue but its difficult. Without wanting to downplay the very careful financial management of the club - we're hand to mouth at Wakefield, and probably most clubs. Income has dried up due to something that no one could see coming or really mitigate against. I've got sympathies with both sides but fundamentally all that matters to me is that the club survives. I find it hard to believe it will come to a point where there is a walk out of playing staff and lets hope its all resolved this week. Unfortunately looks like there will be bridges that cannot be mended.
Its been pretty public all along that someone was playing up, initially when the squad was furloughed there was a comment about someone earning 10k a month should really have some savings, there was then some pretty public comments about attitudes of not some players not being forgotten and now we have the grand newspaper hyperbole of a 'strike' threat. Would have to believe its the same player at the centre of it. If a player thinks they can do better elsewhere then I'd invite them to go seek a move because I don't believe the contract they are looking for will be out there, and if they're that special we'll have a transfer fee.
I've had suspicions about who it might be like most of us will have but I hope I'm wrong because I'd be very disappointed.

The Mirror article says soChief executive Michael Carter says that the average loss for players in net pay would be 11.5 percent over the year with the highest loss being 16.7 percent, but has confirmed that one senior member of Trinity’s squad has been calling for a strike.[/i"

| Advocating a strike is ok when the employer is flush with cash and not doing the right thing.
However, with the current situation, it looks more like everyone needs to help "carry the load" in order for the club to survive.
It's a very tough ask for all concerned.
Most seem to have been furloughed and of course, everyone has spending commitments / families to support etc.
However, we all hope that this year is a blip and that things will eventually return to something like normal, even though this may take 2/3 years ?
If this boils down to a reduction in salaries or the club going bust, I guess that players have a simple choice or, they could ask for a move.
As a sport, we need to cr@p or get off the pot.
How long, time wise, can we actually go, before time has to be called on the season.
Somehow, games need to start up again and soon and if an odd one or two players aren't up for it, we have to move on without them.

| It's OK everybody being all hung ho about what they would do but you don't actually know what's happening. (neither do I of course)
Saying you'd take a pay cut is all well and good but what about if everyone else has say 10% cut and you have 16%
Abd you only just pay your mortgage,
And you have kids and the 10% dont
And you had a contract offer elsewhere but decided to stay for the good of the team
Etc etc
It's never as clean cut as the papers make out.
Personally I would never strike. It's an out of date concept now. But when you don't know the reasons it's difficult to draw conclusions and easy to blame.

| We do appear to be one club that likes to do their dirty washing in the public. This in itself reflects badly on the club or all the rest would do the same.
