Some of you on here know me, and I hope you know when I’m being serious. A close family member works for a government department that receives, analyses, and deals with financial information within the Uk. His wife is a hospital consultant. He hinted to me days ago what was likely to come re, the government financial planning, and virus outbreak. Last night he told me his wife was being trained for intubation those who arrive at ICU, and that 7 Italian doctors have already died working in Italian hospitals, so he is understandably concerned.
I’m sure we all have felt that things have changed this past couple of weeks, something feels different, and it’s worrying.
Regardless of our political choices, this government has lots of information that We don’t, and acting in our and the country’s best interests. I think we should all follow their instructions, re social gathering, stockpiling, and consideration for others. This Is a sort of war, and the NHS is the front line. We all need to support them and help them by looking after ourselves staying healthy.
I awoke early this morning, thinking about those family members, if I didn’t take this virus outbreak seriously enough before then, well I do now.
Stay safe everyone.

No it isnt.
You can be sent to prison.
"No, you can't go to prison for not having a TV licence. The court can only give you a fine for this. But if you don't pay, the court can take further action to collect the fine, including sending you to prison as a last resort."

Unfortunately seems to be bringing the worst out in some people.
I really don't understand the panic buying and absolute disregard for others. It has been well publicised that there is NO shortage of supplies but it still doesn't stop the 'I'm alright Jack' attitude of a lot of selfish people raiding supermarked shelves and leaving scraps for people trying to shop responsibly.

Symptomatic of the world we now find ourselves living in, 1315, old chap.

Along with other over seventies my wife and I were waiting outside Iceland at Monk Bretton for the 10.o'clock opening, only to be told by one of the assistants (who had been there since at least 8.30) that they hadn't had any deliveries that morning. Why couldn't he have said that a long time prior to opening.
I think we're hearing a lot of hot air from some retailers who, it appears obvious, are profiteering from the situation and are rubbing their hands. Some of the BIG retailers at that.

Working as I do for a big retailer I can tell you there isn’t an ounce of truth in what you say. You really do talk some absolute claptrap at times, frankly it’s embarrassing and insulting.

I’ve been working 14 hours a day or two weeks to ensure the supply chain stays in tact. Are you so daft that you don’t think that the upsurge in consumer demand doesn’t come at a cost! Do you think that suppliers get their employees to work extra hours for free or that other cost such as fuel don’t have a knock on effect on costs.

Costs that ultimately must be carried at leat in part by the end user. If any BIG retailer is making money out of Coronavirus then we’d love to know how.

Finally even to one as deluded as you do you honestly think that any BIG retailer wants to be known as a profiteering company once this is over, seriously do you!

I don’t know why we bother at times with blowhards like you undermining the effort of those who are actually doing something. Instead of moaning about the poor lad at Iceland whose been getting breathed on for weeks by potential carriers why don’t you give him a break and thank him for risking his life or are you too important for that. Just because you are in your seventies doesn’t give you the right to such an over entitled attitude, Coronavirus is not just about you!

Yes, I’m annoyed.

Agree. I was also told by a member of staff at Asda today that one of the reasons they have started to close through the night was to prevent the 'corner shop' owners visiting through the night to buy stock for them to sell on.

Sorry but that is complete crap.

I also work for a big retailer and can tell you everyone is working their off.
Our VPs were in stores helping out and doing some hard shop floor work just to ease the pressure. All those at head office that can are doing the same.
I'm one of them and I can tell you I was knackered after one day.

We are employing people at a days notice to help the supply chain and give people a chance who have lost jobs. We have 10s of thousands of applications.

They are giving store staff extra weeks pay to say thank you for the efforts
They are giving millions to food bank charities to help out.

The corner shop owners can go any time they like.
The reason they are closing at night is to give stores colleagues a rest and focus all the resource on getting the shelves full again. No other reason.

They are helping vulnerable people by giving them time on their own, even though non vulnerable people are still trying to come in and take advantage. Same for NHS staff.
They are having to recruit extra security because idiots abuse those people trying to help in store because they can't buy 50 toilet rolls.

So please get your facts right.

Today I called at Aldi on batley road to pick up a few items and was quite surprised to see three security guards present, now that must be costing them more on wages
Then called at Morrison's just in case I was lucky enough but none there too. Had to laugh at a bloke pushing his trolley out with two massive crates of carling and a big packet of bog rolls

Shame we didn't get eggs and flour but there's plenty of food out there, at least I have just enough to bake the Mrs her birthday cake at home.

Stay safe all

I didn't know God had another son, fisherman, and you still insist on leaving the second "r" out of your name.
If what you are saying is totally true why am I seeing items in shops and stores costing considerably more than they were a
couple of weeks ago.
Firstly I would cut the insults that you seem to use so freely at times.
Nowhere have I criticised or undermined effort by anybody who are part of the supply chain neither would I do so. Therefore you are wrong on that one'
Secondly. I'm not daft. the reference to the assistant at Iceland was correct He could have told all those who had waited a considerable length of time that there had been no delivery therefore allowing them to try elsewhere in that valuable period.
You're gonna hurt yourself one day fc if you happen to fall off that high horse you seem to be permanently perched on. you are quite embarrassing at times

Without any malice or sarcasm I value the work and extra effort that you and your ilk are doing on behalf of all of us

My last word on the subject fisherman (you'll be pleased" to hear) is that everything you say and PT says is, I'm assuming, correct regarding yours and your colleagues' efforts in these trying times, BUT, you must be somewhat naive if you aren't aware that in any period of tragedy there is always someone somewhere who is dishonest enough to take advantage of the situation. During the war they were known as spivs, There are retailers large and small who will shamelessly profit greatly from the situation that we find ourselves in.

Lol as I said mate, wrong person plus it didn’t even have the full message.

Hope your mrs had a good birthday, shame about what’s currently going on. Hope you get to head out and enjoy it once all this is all over.
