The never say die attitude was so evident in the lads last night and as most have said not completing sets in the first half was our downfall.
So proud of everyone and confident with performances like that we'll win more than we lose.
If there is one thing I would like to see though is the introduction of the captains challenge as it may just lift the refs performance as it must be demoralising for the players when they see some calls go against them. That said though take nothing away from the lads. They kept going and Catalans were definitely on the back foot at the end. eusa_clap.gif eusa_clap.gif

Quote: TimmySmith "I think he’s right in what he’s saying.

Silly things like running behind your own man, we were all taught not to do it right from the off so how it happens numerous times in a professional game is a schoolboy error.

Ashurst knocking the hookers hand on the 5th tackle, on our line was a schoolboy error from a senior player.

We can’t pin the loss on anyone in particular though, I hope it doesn’t come across as that’s I’m trying to do. There were good and bad things from everyone.

Very impressed overall with the fact the younger lads especially wouldn’t just roll over and take it, despite a frustrating ref.

Just hope we can flip the result going forward and make sure we come back with the points.'"

But there not silly things are they, they are exactly the things you’d expect from an as hoc team. Let’s have some realism here, players in all teams make errors and in teams lacking experience they tend to make more.

Why not just concentrate on the positives. I don’t get this idea that you can’t just say well done without some side to the odd negative. Sometimes it’s needed but IMO this is not one, what exactly do you think it achieves assuming you think WP should do the same?

So sorry again but I do think your raking it away from them.'"

So you don’t think battye not playing the ball correctly isn’t a school boy error which led directly to a try , well it is in my book

Wouldn't we all, unfortunately unless Sky decide to show all the games like Fox sport can't see it happening, like it is now without the cameras too much of a disadvantage, left to a referee whose reliant on a touch judge who can't see the end of his nose, it might help Saints and Leeds and Wigan/wire who are always on Sky but not the rest.

Quote: wrencat1873 "After yesterday, Walker should be in the halves next week. No if's but's or maybe's.'"

Agreed, the lad has got a great rugby brain & with proper coaching I think he could make a good standoff. After yesterday he deserves another run-out next week, regardless of who's available.

Regarding the game, it's a shame we looked under cooked in the first quarter, however the fifth tackle penalty for the alleged high shot on McMeeken was a killer.

I was expecting a right shellacking yesterday, what a pleasant surprise, & the team should take that performance into next week.

Can't find the actual incident on the replay, but I think you'll find the penalty was against Pitts for being off-side and picking the ball up rather than Ashurst hitting the player's arm, as the penalty is given 5 metres to the left of the sticks rather than directly in front, where Ashurst was ??

Catalan got a scrum when the Catalan player knocked the arm of the Wakefield player .Do not see the diffrence.Any body see the Catalan player bend down to play the ball ,then brought the ball back up then played the ball .The ref gave Wakfield off side because they had moved up when it looked like the Catalan player was going to play the ball at the first attempt, Only about 10 seconds difference ,but is that cheeting

This …… They got away with loads at their play the ball ! It was mcmeekin that dummied it and they scored from the penalty . Same with the Ashurst incident .. messing around and the ref fell for it ! Rubbish decisions … and the lay on by Drinkwater near the end was embarrassing it was that long .. not a peep from the officials . Some really harsh calls for Wakey tonight !

Pity you pick that up because I thought him and Arona had their best games for ages, against a big physical Catalans pack.

Just found it now at 59:00...it's definitely Pitts that gets penalised for being off-side (even though he wasn't !!!), rather than Ashurst hitting the arm, as the ref walks over to Pitts and says "you're off" and awards the penalty there.

I suppose we brought Catalan down to our level right mr wilkin. a026.gif

Great performance from the lads especially Max and Brad and there's nothing else really what hasn't already been said regarding the Ref, think Specsavers come to mind.

Just shows how a partisan crowd can influence officials. Every time the crowd didnt like something they jeered and sure enough got the majority of the decisions.

Just want to add a few things.

I thought all our forwards put a real shift in yesterday. Was very pleased to see Aydin mixing it up in the middle. The lad doesn’t take a backwards step and looks like he’s ready to stake a claim for a bench spot this season.

I thought Bowes was impressive too. When I saw him end of 2020 I think he was getting pushed around like a pinball but against Catalans he tackled well and offered some options. Massively positive and he looks like he could be a decent 9 option should he be needed this year.

Special mention to Batchelor who again filled in at right centre and did a great job. I really like the look of Batch and it’s hard to forget he’s only 23! If there’s the option I would be tying him up long term as our permanent right SR for the future.

The whole team never threw the towel in and soon these tight losses will turn into wins! Keep it up.

Don’t think you could have picked a worse example to make your point and I rate you as a poster.

That wasn’t a schoolboy error, it was just an error that every player in every team makes on a regular basis. Sometimes you get away with them other times you don’t,

If there is such a thing as a schoolboy error Drinkwaters?? pass in in the last minute was it. True it wasn’t going to cost them the game but it was utterly pointless. Grix a few years ago, that was bad because getting it wrong actually took more effort than getting it right.

Battye for me made an unforced error, a momentary lack of concentration. All people in all professions make them all the time, it’s how we/they react and the damage limitation that matters. Although we couldn’t hold the line on this occasion overall we did well on that regard but you just can’t win them all. Isolating one player doesn’t help.
