Shock horror, another Danny Kirmond to Salford related topic and RED LEAGUE is all over it (again) embarrassing himself and 99.999% of the rest of us Salford fans. Can you please refrain from advising Michael Carter on how to save Wakefield RLFC, he seems to be doing a very good job of it on his own. I can’t imagine how difficult it must be to make the decisions he is, but it would seem (from an outsiders perspective) he is only making them in order to do the very best he can for the future of the club. I hope Wakefield aren’t required to sell Danny Kirmond, but if they are its obvious it will only be because there is no alternative. If Michael Carter was just after the cash, he would have accepted our previous two offers. Clearly he wants Danny Kirmond to stay at Wakefield just as much as the rest of the fans.

Best of luck for the near future.

I am one of many genuine Salford fans who wish WTW the very best in difficult times. I have read the posts that Red League has put on your forum and would like to redress the balance.
I remember last year when we were in a similar position to yourselves. It's an awful feeling when the club you love is in the balance. I personally would support Salford if they were playing in the amateur leagues.
Last Christmas time I attended a meeting and came out thinking there'd be no more Salford for me or anyone else for that matter. I was distraught and after watching salford for about 40 years thought the time had come.
At the time everyone was slagging off John Wilkinson who tried for 30 years to keep our club going. Due to a number of reasons, new ground costs, the economy, his personal business declining he just about kept Salford going.
Then the good Doctor came along and we were in a better position. It was too late to do anything for this year but we had a season where our youngsters played really well. Although we finished bottom the youngsters performed admirably. It's a season I never thought we'd have but I'm sure all Salford fans preferred having a team to support.

What I'm really saying is to get behind Mr Carter because what I understand, he has personally uinvested a lot into WTW. Try and understand that some that things happen behind the scenes are for the future of WTW and we don't know all the facts.

Support your team as best you can and I hope to have many more trips over to Wakey between our two clubs.

Once againn sorry about the lack of compassion and understanding from "Red League" and all the best in your fight.

All the best.

Thanks guys. It is nice to hear from sensible posters.
You guys are always welcome on here.

If Danny does go, please don't suggest Red League as part of the deal. He has to stay with you no matter what.

Perhaps you need to recognise that saying 'D*nny K*rm*nd' (see what I did there?) is like saying 'Beetlejuice' three times.

On a vaguely related note - and at the risk of taking this thread off topic (not necessarily a bad thing) - how has Wakefield ended up in this situation? I genuinely don't know what happened and have wanted to ask but didn't want to start a thread about it, as I can fully appreciate having Salford fans on here isn't what you want at the moment (thanks for that, Red League). Last season you seemed to be pulling in decent crowds and were on the up.

Best of luck. We know what you are going through, and most of us recognise how awful it is.

Foundations built on sand. Things looked good but underneath it all they weren't. Ultimately Andrew Glover did not have the capital to fund a SL club and short term progress has come with a potentially long term cost due to the decisions made by the previous CEO.

Ah Red John, you might have just started a thread that would continue for a hundred pages but to try and put it in a very short story

We had a board that tried to do a good job over a number of years and because finances were low, probably tried some risky moves (that no one knew about) and ended up in Admin
Looked like some things were poorly run but it wasn't seen until after admin and of course everybody has a masters degree in hindsight.

Then someone came in who had been a shirt sponsor and took over. They were all about clarity and 100% marketing. It worked really well and the crowds went up and the team got better. Some said it wasn't all good but the new guys were very convincing so we all lapped it up.
Unfortunately they were also gambling with money they didn't have and it all fell apart again......just quickly this time as they had been slightly more open about what they were doing.
There were some special circumstances that didn't help like sponsors going bust but ultimately they were speculating on big crowds with cheap tickets which reduced the income.

Now we have someone who has stepped in with accounting skills that looks like (but not everyone agrees) being able to balance the books. Unfortunately because confidence has been sapped by the group that marketed big and convinced us we were all golden, he can't get the money through supporters season tickets so is having to off load some of the bigger wage bills to get us to teh balanced position.

How good a quality of team we will end up with once balanced is a hot subject but only time will tell.

Income = Y, Expenditure = Y x 2
Simple bad management (although not noticed by one of our more vocal posters) at the time sadly or he could have raised the alarm for us.
Where it went and on what nobody really fully understands but basically what we are presently reaping; was sown over the last couple of seasons.

Thanks for the replies guys.

Basically, it seems Wakefield went down a well-trodden path. Unfortunately, the pressure is always on to go down that route, with fans demanding success and believing that that success will bring more fans and therefore more success. John Wilkinson at Salford always tried to keep expenditure close to income, but ended up being criticised for it by one section of fans (you'll never guess who one of them was) who subscribe to this 'you've got to speculate to accumulate' garbage, which is always easy when it's not your money you want to speculate with. In the end they speculated on the new stadium bringing in crowds of around 8000 and budgeted on that basis. Crowds turned out to be around 5500 and we went down the pan.

It's becoming more and more apparent that pretty much the only way to achieve any form of success in team sport (not just RL) is to have a wealthy backer that's prepared to invest in kick-starting the process, like Simon Moran at Warrington.

Good luck for the future.

Hey what you don't realise is your going to end up costing your club financially asking stupid money for Kirmond, he's not even an international, I know you've been offered 2 times his market value and yet the pound signs in your eyes still keep flashing, you end up losing a really good deal by being greedy, but GT it's your job to save YOUR club if you fail YOU will be held responsible.

Red league sent me the above

Just for the record, I haven't asked for any money, never mind stupid money.
