Who other than Welsby in SL would you swap him with as a player elegible for England? None or hardly any for me.
His best years are ahead of him just like Tomkins, Wellens, Coote etc over here in the UK. A post further up mentions younger full backs in NRL but they have a lot of young talent in that position unlike the superleague where our fullbacks tend to show best form later on.'"
I don't get the logic of the players you mention. They were all stars when they were younger. They didn't get better when they were older they just played well and adapted their game when they were older.

But their full back play did get better as they got older imo. Their all round play was much improved as a full back especially in organising other players around them and becoming ball players rather than flair players. Take Tomkins, young lad who was good but mainly because of his step and ability to glide through the gaps rather than create space and opportunity for others. He naturally developed this over his career.
You don’t have to agree with me. I’m not precious at all but I think there could be a chance over the next few years.
Someone posted above about they care about his form for Trinity. That goes without saying and if he goes onto be a good club man I’ll be happy with that.

| Max reminds me a lot of Richie Mathers. His one on one defence can sometimes let him down but when he joins the attacking line he's like a good third half-back.

As a whole we are struggling for quality fullbacks, Welsby as a whole is the best we have. There’s Thewlis at Wire that’s played there abit and Will Pryce at the knights (making debut this weekend). If Jowitt was to toss his hat in the ring it would be next year with hopefully the best quality side he’ll of ever been in. His defence doesn’t let him down slightly it’ll let him down massively at international level. For me the best fullback in the world is Dylan Edward’s, his defence is equally as good as his attack, he’s just quality.

I agree he's good, and I also agree he'll get better, I'm just not as confident as you that he'll be playing for England.

I agree, not convinced he'll near an England shirt, but have to agree with the POV - where are we seeing a better English full-back, as an alternative to the incumbent, than Jowitt?

| And in answer to my own question - Wane, as Bennett did, will play any other favoured player out of position, rather than pick an outlier.

That was more my point. A lot f clubs have brought in overseas to fill the spot. An injury to Wellsby and who do we look at as an experienced number 1? It’s certainly a gap in the development of international players (as it is at halfback).

Evalds, Brierley, O'Brian will all be ahead of Jowitt.

Two of those are almost 33 and at the back end of their careers. We are talking over the next few years afterall not this exact moment.
Evalds I’ll probably give you that one but he’s almost 31 too.
I’m not sure on Brierly or O’Brien. But they won’t be around much longer in SL.
I certainly wouldn’t swap Jowitt for any of them with his best years coming up. Your 3 x players mentioned kind of prove my point that In a year or two he could be in a position of being close by default in there not being much depth in that position (though I’d like to think he’d earn it).

| I seemt o be coming across as negative to Jowitt. I'm very happy he plays for Trinity and I have been a proponent for his inclusion in the team ever since he broke through. I complained about Grix, then Walker were favoured over him meaning he played on the wing on some occasions.
Ultimately he plays for an unfashionable club, and the next hot prospect will no doubt be coming through at Wigan, Saints or Warrington who will likely get the nod ahead of him.
I guess if he continues his form into SL (should we get there) then the mid season test against France should be his target as Wane seems to be willing to try players out.

Have to correct you there - I can tell you now that amongst the top echelons of the game, Trinity are considered to be very fashionable these days. If/when we get into SL there will be no stigma attached to our players any more. Why do you think TJ and McMeeken have signed up, both still have international ambitions.
It's understandable that people are not fully on board just yet, but everything has changed. So I would say that if Jowitt took his form into SL next year, he'd be in with a very good chance. I have to say that IMHO he's now as good a player as any of those you mentioned.

So why isn't he in the squad?
If he's as good and they like our club?

| If Welsby goes to the NRL and Max steps up at SL level I can see him getting an England call up for a mid season international against France where the NrL players aren’t available
