It's going to be a tough gig for anyone coming in.
Going from now setting the world alight at Hull, with a full cap spend to Trinity with 25/30% ? less spend, would certainly be a "test".
It seems a little odd that Chester was given so much time and yet Willie is "let go" after one season ?

Isn't it more likely they recognise the mistakes they made with Chester and if they weren't 100% confident in Poching, decided to make a break now.

| I would try and bring Craig Lingard over from Batley. A good coach who gets the best from his players. Also I’m sure he’s had experience of coaching on a tight budget.

| Quote: Slugger McBatt "It clearly wasn't for him. I do wonder whether the turnaround was due to someone else taking up the reins or the players getting their heads together. If leaving players are giving bad feedback, it was clearly never a job for Willie.
Although critical earlier in the season, I did think that the end of season flourish might have carried on into next year and he'd learned the job, but clearly not.
Those behind the scenes will know the reason for the turnaround and that might shape where we go next. If it is someone already there, fine. Matt Peet has done okay at Wigan with a similar profile behind the scenes at Wigan.'"
Imo tge upturn in form at the end of the season was totally down to four players who didn’t want to be part of the team who finally got us relegated.
Miller, Arona, Fifita and Batch arguably played they’re best Rugby in a Trinity shirt. I’m sure Poching did his bit but those four led from the front.
Danny Ward anyone?

You may be right but, that would be massively harsh on Poching, given that he had to run with the previous coaches side and hasn't had a chance to bring in an of "his own" signings.
If you look at other coaches, like Powell at Wire or Watson at Huddersfield, both struggled in their first 12 month's, especially Powell.
Chester went from have us finish 5th, 7th. 8th, 10th and 10th (hope I've got that right) and Poching seemed to be worth another season, unless of course it was some kind of player revolt or another intervention which turned this season around and the improvement was due to other people rather than Poching and Cummings ?

You’ve solved your own question. Chester got more time than Poching because Chester was a success in his first three seasons. Nobody wanted Chester out at that point.
Best will in the world, WP has not been great. He benefited from new coach syndrome in 2021. In 2022 he presided over three of our worst SL outings in the last ten years. Tha shambles against Cas at home, Salford away and the worst of the lot the capitulation at magic. Chester was not producing those results until his last season and even then they weren’t as bad.
Poching had a great deal of goodwill due to his past with the club but his coaching record doesn’t stand up for me and I’m on record for stating it.
I think we need to break all ties with the coaching set up of the last six years and be bold.

I think the club have done the correct thing.
It’s the last bit for me. We absolutely need to build a strong culture with the aim of actually winning something in the near future. The key word is professionalism.
It’s much easier for a new coaching set up to come in and install a professional set up. But we certainly need to change the perception and direction of the club.
Next season we will have new facilities, new pitch, newer training/gym facilities and we must make sure we run a professional training and coaching set up to go with that otherwise what is the point?
I think in a way Poching being part of the past regimes is a victim of circumstance in that it’s much harder to break and change a culture if you were part of it over the years. The club in a
way are recognising the need for change. Overall Poching did well and should be commended but it’s clearly been decided he’s not the man to take us forwards.
For me I think McDermott would be ideal. He’s a strong character who can instil a new culture and that’s what’s needed. Fev have had a few games but have won all but 3/4 of their games all season with a 585? Positive points difference. 2 of the losses were vs a heavy spending Leigh. Not sure how anyone can fault that at all. I’d welcome him.
Whoever the coach is we must change and be more professional along with the off field developments. If we do that I’m sure we will see players like Murphy/Hall/Eseh sign up and drag up into being challengers in the next 3-5 years.

McDermotts record at Fev needs to be taken in context.
Fev & Leigh have MASSIVELY out spent all of the other clubs in the Championship (and probably Trinity) and therefore, they were "certain" to finish 1st or 2nd.
He did very well at Leeds but, not so great at London (37% win ratio).
Unless there is some influx of cash, Trinity need a wheeler dealer who can get maximum value bringing in "cheaper" players.
IF there was an investor coming in, that could help put Trinity on a level footing with some of the bigger clubs in the comp, that would change the profile of the coach that we need and that we could attract.
From really enjoying the end of season and starting to look forward to next season, everything now has a huge amount of uncertainty.
A Tony Smith type character would be ideal but, in fairness, time wont be on our side and assuming that Leigh gain promotion, there will be no soft touches in SL next season.
