That match sticks in my mind too. Thanks for the additional info. I could recall it was against Fev, but couldn't recall the details.

Would have been sometime around the date that STB refers to above. The infamous "Bill Ashurst wall" was built on the vacant space and he was here 1978/79

| Lot of emotion on and off the pitch when that DG flew over from Miller. The North Stand can be a conservative place at times but not in that moment. Pure explosion of joy

Remember that well, wasn't there a bit of a snowstorm during the game?

The reason it was demolished was to allow the pitch to be moved to accommodate a new supermarket behind the North Stand. It was during the Trevor Woodward era I believe, unfortunately you will notice no supermarket so we did our bit too early. The year I cannot remember but definitely a long time ago.

Correct and this one act undoubtedly started the club's real decline. Very early 80's I think?

Almost on the money, the Club were going to have a new stadium where the Asda is now down by Pugney's, the Asda Supermarket was going to be built on BV.

I could be mistaken, but I’m sure the stand was dismantled and sold to another rugby league club, York springs to mind, perhaps other long in the tooth fans may remember

Think you're wrong though it was before my time. I believe the roof was sold to a framer in Pontefract to use as a barn.

Definitely pre 1980, vasty. As I mentioned above, Ashurst didn't join us until 1978/79 season and the stand had been cleared before then.

Was it still up in 79 when we went to Wembley?

| Just looked in the Mike Rylance history of Trinity book and there is an action photo taken in 1977 showing Graham Idle and Toppo and in the background is the south stand showing the terracing and barriers. I would say it was demolished very soon after that photo. whilst Ashurst was with the club he reportedly built a low concrete block wall along that end of the pitch on the site of the former south stand. It was jokingly referred to as the "Bill Ashurst Stand" so it must have been demolished slightly prior to the 1979 Wembley final.

On the Trinity heritage site there's photos of the south stand. One from the opening of the floodlights in 1967 and one dated 1978.

| Yes i think 77/78 was when it was demolished. However things back then were different. The demolistion took place during a season and i am sure you could still use that end at the time. I am certain i stood on the terrace once the roof had been removed.
