Everyone else seems to rake in anybody they want so it must be really lax.

| Quote: vastman "Well with Hampshire you could probably outbid us, however, if you add the travel expenses to Hull then it gets expensive. As petrol prices go up it really makes a difference. The best part of £400 per month or 4k per year and it all adds up. So he'd probably look to be staying with us if at all possible because we are his local club and his team, but who knows I'm clutching at straws.'"
Its not just the expense mate, its the road closures due to accidents, etc. Liam Watts got fed up of fines for being late that were beyond his control and is much happier at his home town club now.

True. I have always travelled at least 40 minute to work (on a good day) and it’s draining, especially in winter. When I consider early retirement it’s usually the travelling that’s bugging me not the work. There is a lot to be said for being local.
If you say Ryan did go to Hull (just a thought exercise) he loses three hours a day! That’s a huge loss in lifestyle to me let alone in money.
In the modern world it is worth considering.

I’m never sure whose rules these are, RL rules or Home office. I don’t know.

Have I dreamt this, or did Ryan spend some time in the Hull Scholarship as a kid?

I think he did or was that Westerman, not sure.
The real tragedy is that if he’d joined our Academy and crucially all had gone well he’d probably now be the first choice SH and 2 years off his testimonial.
Doesn’t always pay to follow the bright lights as a youngster.
Obviously it could also have been a disaster for him.

| Ryan Hampshire is a bit of an enigma. He has not been first choice in any position, for any club, but always brings something extra to the team when he plays. He has speed, enthusiasm and an eye for a gap which makes him a threat to the opposition.
It depends on whether he still sees himself as a first choice SH at SL level or whether he can come to terms with being an excellent utility player.
I feel it's his decision making in possession that stops him going to that extra level, maybe that will improve with experience but likely to be compensated by loss of pace.
This makes putting value on him as a player very difficult and lead to protracted negotiations.
I hope we can keep him.
