| Quote: Scarlet Pimpernell "What an egotist claiming Westerman signed for Castleford because Chester’s own future was uncertain. He should be subject to the same they give to those players out of contract. go see if anyone else wants you.
If this decision is true he has no consideration for the club because all we have each season is a fight to avoid relegation. We if we are lucky stand still with little sign of advancement, the problem is that it will not take much to see us go the other way.'"
I'm always impressed with your creativity to twist a nothing statement into an anti Chester campaign speech.
What he said was that the lure of playing at his home town club had a big part to play and then said he couldn't answer his question about his own situation.
He didn't say he signed because of Chester's contract situation at all.
Saying that, I think it's important to know who you are playing for when you sign a contract.

Yet under that coach he has played his best rugby in years and got an England call up.
Funny how facts work.

| Not sure how true it is but a relation of Joes who posts on the Cas forum said Joe thought he had done enough to warrant a 2 year deal but was only offered a 1 year deal so he took the 2 year on offer at Cas. Makes it even stranger when Ashurst (who I like more than some on here) is offered a 2 year deal.

| I think PT if you read the article he clearly equates his own contract uncertainty impacting on the loss of our star player. He then goes on to refer to his desire to play for his home town club.
I would say that I am not the supporter you have to convince of the benefits of retaining Chester because I have long realised he had overstayed his tenure.
I did regard the game against Castleford who were going through some problems as his first step to any form of redemption regrettably he failed. We now face a very much weakened Wigan team at home, I know we have our own absentees but this is a game we should clearly win. I suspect you would expect that to be the case especially with your faith in the coaching ability of Chester. We start on his road to redemption once again but is he up to job he believes it is so now is the time for starting to prove it don’t you think.

I also read it as Westerman wouldn't sign because CC couldn't give him an answer on his own future.
So seems a bit ironic that if the rumour is true about a contract renewal for CC, shortly after it's become public that Joe is going 'home', is again deflecting away from the inadequacy of CC but let's try and appease the fans by signing 'fans favourite' Ashurst to soften the blow.

| The only way Chester is going to get fans back on his side is that we sign 'better' quality players..........and is that going to happen?
Money apparently for Fifita and Williams (great PR trick by the way) but in reality linked with Gaskell, Sidlow and extension for a player who's body is bust (albeit been a great signing for us but enough is enough.)
We have Batchelor, Pitts, Crowther, Arona, Kelepi, Arundel who can all play back row....
Will be an interesting second half to 2021 (on and off the pitch!)

Batch, Crowther and Arundel are all OOC. Personally at this moment in time I’d only sign Batch up.
With Ashurst signed up and Pitts its possible Tanginoa will make a permenant move to prop which imo he’s still good but he’s by far the best SR at the club.

Although it sparked some excitement, not too many people actually believed that Fifita was coming.
Just because we "made an offer" doesn't mean that it was an acceptable one and ditto Williams.
Unless someone has won the Euromillions, it's fair to assume that we're not flush with funds and it will be the usual wheeling and dealing that is used to complete our squad for next season.
The clubs finances will have been tested like never before, with income decimated by covid restrictions.
It's fair to assume that Trinity, along with many others, will have their belt pulled in as tight as it will go and right now, assuming we can afford to do so, the fans need to keep putting money over the counter, either in the shop, 1873 lottery or, however else we can.
Yes, it's not what we want but, the hatches will be battened down and hoping that we ride out the storm, something that still has no definite end in sight.

| It's a fair point Wrencat - you only have to look at the players being linked to Wigan to show how tight recruitment will be for the majority next season!

| The Williams link was based on a frivolous tongue in cheek comment from Chris Chester that only the dumbest would take in as anything else. Anyone seeing the actual interview laughed along with CC. The Fifita rummer ( love it) arose when, fueled by chit chat from DF on social media, AF was frozen out and looked like he could be available as a cut price loan deal. Wakefield enquired, things changed and he wasn't.
Don't think either of these past events suggested we had suddenly become flush.
