I would say it's not that they get it wrong, they just don't actually do anything to assist the ref IMO.
I don't tend to see touch judges give any decisions really so it's hard to say they're getting it wrong (even though technically by doing nothing they are getting it wrong)

The only fact available on Mr Thaler situation is he's suspended, unless you are privvy to other details,so the question I have of you is, what evidence have you formed this opinion on his suspension.

Am I the only person who doesn't even check who the ref is, because it's entirely irrelevant to the outcome in all but the most rare and extreme examples?

It’s part of the match day tradition amongst other things,such as having pre match pie and pint, to discuss match day officials, we all have opinions of them from past experiences of seeing them in action.

I'm the same.
I could happily watch a game and never know who the ref is.

I'll never forgive Child for his FORTY TWO penalties in our game against Cas at the Millennium stadium all those years ago.
I have to say that everything that has happened since is tainted by his "performance" on that day.

It was (and still is) a long way to Cardiff and that guy ruined the game and the day.
