He played centre for us and Warrington. He’s been on the wing occasionally but so have most centres.
One things for sure is that he’s unlikely to have gained rather than lost the pace to be a winger in the last few years. It’s common for wingers to become centres but I can’t recall it going the other way to often.

| Positive signing this one. Help the youngsters along and centre/2nd Row options bolstered for next year. We’ve come up short on adaptability when the injuries piled up and need to put measures in place for next year

| A wealth of top flight experience and a winning mentality will only enhance our 1st team and youngsters coming through ,thumbs up to the club for another great signing .May be coming to the back end of his career but still got it in my opinion when I’ve seen him play .

He ripped through us when we were at their place so can't be that bad.

| its a shame the way he's left especially since he's in his testimonial year, for all the good stuff warrington seem to do, we always seem to balls up sending long term players out in awkward fashion, its been happening for years.
Atkins got ousted from his favoured left centre position for goodwin who has a tremendous left foot step (i'm not sure we've had great value for money from him overall but thats another thread) so he got shifted to the right whereupon he was in and out of the team as toby king started combining with charnley better.
We've mooted the possibility of moving him into the back row as he is a very strong ball runner, with good metres after contact and a quick PTB, however it's never happened, and i can't recall him filling in there ever over 10 years.
Whilst there's a lot of fans sad to see him leave like this without a proper send off, there's also a fair few that lost patience with him a while ago on his reluctance to pass to his winger, and on the occasions he did they were awkward offloads that usually went into 2nd row of the crowd.
I've enjoyed having him here, he was part of the tony smith revolution, i wasn't keen when we first signed him as he had displayed no ability to tackle when i'd seem him playing for you, but that came along pretty quick.
All the best Rhino.

| If he can do at least one tackle bust per game he can play where the hell he likes.

He didn't play against us at their place?
I have my doubts over the signing, mainly due to his age and the fact that he has become more injury prone over the last couple of years, but he'll be good to around the squad and is probably only likely to be a squad player anyway. Not sure about him in the second row though, he will have to up his defence workrate a lot more than he is used to which might blunt his main assett, his attack. Time will tell there.
Anyway he is hoping to be fit for the Wigan game so we can forget about him until then.

I was thinking about when he went down the wing and got through Batchelor and full back I think was Max.
Maybe it was last year then.

| Very pleased about this news.
But not as pleased as the manager of the Toby Carvery.
