Worst referee around has to be Jack Smith, can't remember ever watching a game he's reffed, including non Wakefield games, where I haven't come away thinking he was dreadful.'"
I think Child blotted his copy book for us in the Millenium game against Cas all those years ago
His 42 penalties is still a record and completely ruined the game.

| Not criticising the ref as such , more the rule interpretation. Last week against Leeds, McGuire caught the ball with his foot over the deadball line and we got the dropout, tonight the Cas player did`nt even catch the ball with his foot over the line and they got a penalty on the halfway line. What was the difference in the 2 plays and which one was the right call ?

This is a fine point. I mentioned this. I thought it was now outlawed that you could stick a foot dead in goal and touch the ball and it classed as a dead ball? So I was baffled when they got a 7 tackle set from Jowitt's kick off and we didn't get a drop out? What is the rule?

| But surely you have to catch the ball to make it dead.... not bat at it with your arm...
Also can anyone tell me how cas got the tap 20 from our high kick to the corner... at the match it looked like we knocked the ball back or Eden knocked it forward, Lynne picked it up, stretched to try and score short/double movement. No way was it a try but surely it was either a handover, our scrum or a cas penalty?

Embarrassed for you...
Did James Child swap MCB and Tupou around? Did Bentham tell our players to give away silly penalties late in the tackle count? Did any official instruct Huby to drop the ball, or Jowitt to kick out on the full or BJB to go for an intercept when a tackle would have been better, or Finn to have an off night with the boot?!
If anything, I thought Child was lenient in the ruck for both teams - and he let a couple of flare-ups play themselves out without resorting to penalties; all in all, a good performance from all the officials, and a result that was decided by the two teams involved, one of whom was significantly better than the other.

| Thought the ref had a decent game, I thought he missed a couple of Cas knock ons but i also thought he misses a couple of things that we got away with.
Cas were just better than us last night as they have been most of the season, I thought we gave it a good go.

| Best refereeing performance from Child I have seen.
He's been notoriously bad for us in the past but he was pretty much spot on with everything last night.
Beaten fairly and squarely by the better side.

Did he penalise Castleford for the blatant swinging arm, did he even consider a sin bin for a shoulder charge off the ball, did he notice that on every 5th tackle play cas stood a prop in front of Gayle who would move to obstruct anyone trying to pressure the kick. Don't be embarrassed for me, I was there last night, Cas best team all year, deserved their win and the trophy, but the referee had an undue influence on the game which led to the high score line.

| Got to agree that the officials had no bearing on the result at all.
Child even sent up the McMeeken try as a "No Try" and Bentham had about 4 looks when it was clearly a try from the first image.

| I thought Childs had a good game and I'm struggling to think of any incident where I thought he had made a ridiculous decision. We were beaten by ourselves and the better team. You cannot afford to make the mistakes we made against the best team in the League and hope to win.
Now if only BJB had intercepted that pass....

| Do any shoulder charges after the ball is gone get punished with a yellow? The flip side is he did well to spot it after the ball had gone. Not sure which blatant swinging arm you are alluding to but, for that reason I cannot comment.
The high score line was about 80% due to the ludicrous decision to put MCB against Webster. The other 20% was cas being able to exploit that absolutely glaring weakness in an otherwise fairly decent Wakefield side on the night.
Thought child was barely noticeable last night. Which is what we all want from any referee.
Personally I'd much rather he let little things go both ways than being overly finicky.
Often I feel that referees make decisions that they don't need to make, thus making their already difficult job harder.
For example, a little bit of handbags and some referees are dying to find out who started it, so they can penalise a team/player. For me, things like that don't need penalising. It's irrelevant to the game. Just take control of the situation, nip it in the bud, warn both captains of their teams conduct and get on with the bloody game.
Couple of pushes and shoves last night but it's a big boys sport, and child did well to just let it play out and not turn it into a drama.
