Massive difference between A Tupou and Ian Shirke. All it took for Shirke to sit out was a broken pinkie.

Don't forget the marquee player rule which would mean any club not already utilising it could sign him if he became available

You continue to bad mouth Toops and you and I are going to have serious problem....
Anthony Tupou is a genuine great of this game...
his involvement and a top Eight finish is no coincidence ...,
Further .... the access to players like the Fifitas come directly from
Contact and reputation of Anthony....
Get back in your hole Buster you don't have and never will have .... earned the right to
Take a dig st someone like Anthony Toops!!!!

Anthony Tupou is not in the same category as Ian Kirke.
In his day Tupou was no doubt world class but unfortunately it appears at 34 years old those days are gone...the mind is still willing but the body is weak and he appears to be carrying a leg/hip injury and walks with a permanent limp when I've seen him.
There have been certain games where he has shown real quality I recall his game against Catalan at home he came off the bench running onto the ball really hard taking 2/3 to tackle him every time and also scored a good try out wide. It's a shame those performances weren't more frequent.

Let's be honest here - he is our top paid player and was brought to us as a potentialmatch winner. He's a great guy and genuinely gives of his best (so not an Ian Kirk), but we've seen fleeting glimpses of his quality work and we could have got better value elsewhere. Even the Sky commentary team have commented that they were disappointed with his input.
I am trying hard not to be disrespectful as he has had an excellent career, but we can barely afford to have so much tied up in a player who hasn't quite got the legs to deliver on the pitch anymore.

Grow up !!!! The guy is finished.I suggest the clubs that he has been great with may owe him a pension, but not us. What he has contributed to our club in comparison to what he has been paid has been a terrible deal that we can't afford. I am not saying he has not been great in the past and he deserves respect for that. Neil Fox was also a great player but you would not offer him a contract !!!
My point is, he has tried but there is nothing left to give. As the season has progressed, he has contributed less and less. We did get the odd glimpse of he talent early days but even those little flashes of his past ability are no longer there.
If the guy takes a long hard look at himself and does the honourable thing and retires I wish him all the best and accept he at least tried a season with us. However if he carries on into next season just to take the money and contribute zero, then he deserves all the critiscm that will come his way.
The club always comes first to me and when players are getting very highly paid I expect them to pay back on the field, I don't expect them to rip us off.

Yes totally agree. Also as a side issue can you all remember when we were rumoured to be signing him how many so called NRL and Aussie experts derided us and poured scorn on the bloke. He is one of a long line of so called reserve grade rubbish that the know it alls from down under said would never make it.
If he doesn't come back to us and gets a better deal elsewhere, then I wish him well, the guy gave us all he had and never let us down.

Well considering where he gone instead of the 4 nations should any potential parting of ways with A Tupou not be amicable then A Fafita would definitely be a no go.
From what I have read it seems genuine that a contract has been offered, perhaps not massive as some articles seem to suggest, buts it's intriguing that the lure is to join up with his brother, which again suggests David is here for next season or will be if they come as a pair.

| Call me a pessimist but I think there's more chance of seeing Lord Lucan ride out onto the new turf of our Newmarket stadium on the back of Shergar than there is seeing Andrew Fifita playing for us.

| As much as I would love this can't realistically see it but then again we said this about this time last year when we signed Anthiny Tupou.
On top of that we have clinched a deal on Sam Williams and believe beat a few others to his signature.
If it does happen it is another indication that we as a club are definately on the up.
If we can sort out the Scott Moore issue and sort ourselves out with a decent replacement, I have no doubt we would be top 8 material, maybe looking upward toward top 4.
Sort this and the ground and the future could be bright, but not orange

| As somebody said earlier have we had a busines man stump up some money like with Wally Lewis.
It maybe MC has found the extra investor hes been looking for.
Maybe a certain company that has bought the ground?
