Exactly. It's easy to blame Tim Smith when he has been the only halfback on the pitch when his 6 has been non existent. Even the Skyes bashers have to admit Miller is the worst halfback ever to don the Wakey shirt, I'd even bring Jeremy Smith.

| The stand off situations been a bag of all season.
The players replaced last season would all get in the squad at the moment. Its a complete shambles . The pack just aint good enough and that includes all of them, plenty of effort but low on ability.

It seems people are finally coming around to the idea that the pack is utter tripe. I can't believe up until a few weeks ago people were still saying they were doing well. Honestly, this pack is crap. There's only simon who has any aggression or urgency whatsoever. The rest are so slow getting up to play the ball it is painful. We are getting constantly dominated down the middle because their tackle technique is generally powderpuff. Cas made yards so much easier than us yesterday with their forwards - they were punching their noses through the line and getting quick play the balls. Our lot take the ball on a standing start, get absolutely dominated in the tackle and it means the opposition line has plenty of time to get back and move up quickly again. I've heard rumours of Dan Smith to one or two clubs and it baffles me who would be interested in any of the current crop of our pack.
In previous seasons, Washbrook has been one of our least effective members of said pack. This season he has been the only one who looks like he wants to carry the ball. Sick of watching Scruton and et al get dominated physically when they aren't exactly small themselves.
I know MC said there is a small bit of money in the pot. I'd be looking at getting 2 solid to good props in who can at least match the opposition because the current props just aren't cutting the mustard. I know the whole team seems to be lethargic but the props pretty much set the tone of the start of the game/each set and definitely have a massive say on the speed of the ruck. Sorting this out would probably be top of my list of priorities if I were B. Smith along with a sliding defence, that moves up [we just stand flatfooted looking like we're soiling our pants]. Nothing fancy, just hard graft.

Agree with this apart from Scruton who has been effective.

What if there happened to be a scenario that certain players, even those under contract, have already got themselves deals lined up for next season elsewhere which would be activated should we go down. Now those deals are at clubs deemed more safe in superleague than ours and are actually worth more money and/or a longer deal than their current one so better for them and their families. So if/when we go down then it is an instant release, no negotiations, no transfer fees no nothing but if we were to stay up then it could be much more awkward to get a release and those deals could be scuppered. Do we think that could effect the effort being put in? And all this in addition to the players out of contract next year who will be announced as signing for other clubs for next year before the seasons end. Ridiculously given the season we have had there will not be many players in this squad who won't get a deal elsewhere if/when we are relegated. I believe their heads have already been turned and i think this is at the crux of the lack of desire problem, it's maybe in their personal interests if we do go down.

Its a very fair point. However, purely my opinion but, the whole Super Eights thing muddies the water too much for that. In other years when plain and simple, if you finished bottom you went down then maybe. But there are too many variables i think with this format. Don't get me wrong, there will almost certainly be some players for whom being relegated would make their lives massively easier. I just think there's too much water to flow under too many bridges to be clinging onto that at the moment though.

I know what you mean but i can guarantee there is one player who is in this very position and if there is one there are probably others. And no i won't name names. But if there is a complete lack of desire in the dressing room then it matters not who takes the job, they cannot drag something out of the players that just isn't there. Brian Smith has history of dividing a dressing room. His appointment could turn into a masterstroke if the players buy into his methods but it is far from certain they will.

A sad reflection on the group of players at the Roosters during that time, I've heard a few horror stories about Pearce being a diva and a very obstructive and difficult bloke. He has a reputation for gathering a clique around him and brewing up trouble.
I think you'll find that more ex B Smith players will vouch for his superb man management abilities than wont.

Someone has put a lot of time and effort into digging up some early negative dirt regarding our new coach. How dare you come along and try to put positive spin on the appointment.
It's not the Wakefield way is it?

To be fair Pearce and the Roosters seem to have done ok since Smith left, they've gone from 13th in 2012 to finishing top in the last two seasons and have won the grand final once. Being a roosters follower it was obvious that by the end he had lost the dressing room, a bit like Webster had here. I guess Smiths supposed abrasive nature could go either way, it will be interested to see how the players react to him.
