| Quote: The Avenger "Watkins posed virtually zero attacking threat against Australia despite doing well to get the ball down for his try.
Where's the footwork and strength he's displayed for Leeds all season, it simply isn't present throughout the first 2 games. On the flip side his defence has been very poor'"
Didn't get any really good ball as it all went to the left, but I agree he has not yet shown his club form at International level.

| I did wonder if Jennings had spiders on him, the way that Watkins let him breeze through - I know he's quick, but he seemed reluctant to lay a hand on him; try aside, he looked poor. I also thought that Charnley was average, especially in comparison to Hall on the other side, who was outstanding. And why the bloody heck Joel Tomkins has walked straight back in to the England side is anyone's guess - he was dog awful; Whitehead must start in his place next week.

it will probably change come kick off - the teams named early in the week are usually changed at some point

I'd like to think so as Elliot Whitehead really does deserve to be in there ahead of either Joel Tomkins and Brett Ferres given his performances over the season.

| Joel Tomkins has got to be the worst second rower to ever wear the England shirt. Was at fault for two tries, gave nothing going forward, yet McNamara picks him again for the Kiwi game. Hmmm, wonder where proctor and co will be running.

| Surely if that were the case he'd have picked a load of Sts players?

| Whilst I fully agree that the Tomkins selection is strange to say the least, I think the text of the selections were spot on vs Australia. Apart from dropping Tomkins the only other change I would make would be dropping Hodgson who for me offers nothing and asking Clark to do the full 80.

I'm not sure about that; I agree that Hodgson looked a bit out of his depth but in fairness, he did also pick up a bang that left him limping and winded. Clark relies on exploiting tired defenders and I'm not sure he'd be as effective at that if he were knackered himself from playing the full 80. He did also bomb a couple, so let's not get too carried away.
Just shows the value of Roby I guess - the bloke's an absolute machine; the best hooker in SL by a country mile and up there with the top 3 in the world.
I totally agree on Tomkins though - I do wonder sometimes if one of the conditions of Sam playing in any given team is that one or more of his brothers gets a go.

| Joel Tomkins will be a fixture for a long time to come, because you can't just go around dumping 'dual internationals'!

Yep, he's really showing those Union boys what they are missing !
In fairness, it's probably a season too soon for him to be playing for England and with another season under his belt, he may be up to it but, why the hell is he in the England team now, it's just baffling.

| No matter who is picked for England the blame lies with the RL for having a coach who is an assistant coach in the NRL. Could you see the Australian RL having their national coach as assistant coach at a super league club. Again another case of the RL not being fit for purpose.
