| Like most have said I could easily walk away from the game and that's from someone who in the past went to internationals. If Wakey were knocked out of one of the many cups and didn't have a game I would go watch Hunslet,Dewsbury,Batley or any other game.
Remember going to grounds such as Huytons Alt Park and going to Cardiff (Blue Dragons) on a Sunday and game called off due to water logged pitch then going for the rearranged game on the Wednesday.Wigan this season was my first away game in years going on Sunday to KR and that's more to keep the family happy as the twins love the game.SWMBO not a lover of the game but we will make a day of it over early doors probs go in The Deep have a meal and make a day of it.This great game needs to up the anti and sort its self out,we had a very well supported world cup for all the lack of pushing the boat out with advertising it and getting a top notch sponsor for it.As for Refs yes they are only human but this present crop are very inconsistent and Roby on Sunday well what can I say with out getting a ban from the forum.

| Same here, i would watch any game in the area when i was young, 3 games in a weekend was a regular occurrence while doing 2 paper rounds and getting to games and back again on public transport. The main difference seemed to be that all spectators new the rules off by heart (well the ones round me seemed to do) probably because there wern't loads of changes every season. The refs seemed to give much clearer hand signals to indicate an offence and touch judges seemed to run on the pitch to report foul play much more. if some body had told me then that in the future we would be paying over £20 to watch a game of rugby league........

| Quote: methley dreadcat "theres no chance of consistency when kids doing the referees course are being told there is no rules anymore, just guidelines meaning its all personal opinion and as we all know opinions differ.i believe it is about time to change rules to laws that cant be changed.'"
Is this true???
I'm only asking because it seems to me that the rules are there in the official laws of the game. The problem for me is precisely that refs don't enforce the rules. Examples are - all the messing about at the PTB resulting in inconsistent decisions about "interference", refs calling held whilst, clearly, the ball carrier is still making ground etc etc. I think we have the rules - everyone should play to them.

| I normally stay and clap the team off after a good effort, but I was so annoyed with the ref I just walked straight out on the hooter.
I still refuse to believe that Roby has deliberately gone out to sabotage us and is guilty of no more than having an absolute stinker. Players and coaches have them so I'm generally not a fan of getting on their backs too much.
It's a vicious circle, we need more referee's to keep the standards high, but I can't imagine the waiting list to become a Pro Ref is too high due to the vitriol they get for poor performance.

| Here here. I watch Aussie games and rarely see the officials stand out.Sundays inept display cost us the game. Hicks and Child are just as bad. Its very poor the standard.

Can't really expect anything else when they let clowns like Stuart Cummings & Ian Smith be in charge of them! The only way officiating will get better is bringing in someone from outside the sport or an ex player to be in charge of officiating and then have it so officials are held responsible for the performance they put in - have a bad week? Next week you're in the Championship, give them a league table and only the top 4 qualify to be eligible for playoff games etc.
Not having neutral refs is a complete joke too.

| the reason I put about rules and laws is because my son and his mate did their level1 refa course last year and the bloke taking the course told them there are only guidelines.that bloke was ben thaler.i am not saying I know more than other people or anything else just what my son told me.it put him off refereeing in the future and he only refs at school for his school work.

| i to had to take my refs papers when getting my coaching levels and it does make good sense. but i easily passed the level in theory that would have allowed me to referee one of the old "A" team games but its much harder when you try and do it "live" one morning a ref didn't turn up for a junior game and i was asked to officiate i said i would if both coaches agreed. boy is it different. in the theory test its a multi choice tick the box exercise and take as long as you want to make the decision. in a game its not that you havn't seen whats happened its trying to think what the rule is for what you have just seen and what your options are. if your not sure you do tend to lean towards the home team.
