He had an off night last night but that happens to every player at some point. I am going off his time at Wakefield where if you look at his tackling stats for the past 2 seasons he missed around 15% of his tackles which isn't bad for a half back.

| I never understood the hype around Salford. The core of their team in weak at the proverbial. The hookers are awful, halves terrible and I include Smith in that, nothing to brag about at loose and fullback looks totally inept.
Chase may well win them a few games but he is not the type of player to take a team and drag them out of the mire.
Add to this they seem to have no fight in them apart from Morley who is a shadow of his former self.
This is all before we start on their Coach who still thinks its 2002.
I think they have an outside chance of making the 8, just.

You're on the wrong site Dave.
On this forum you are only allowed to slag off Lyne, Mathers and sometimes Fox.
Other players aren't cr@p, they just make mistakes.
Back on topic, it took our lads half a season to get used to Smiths stlyle of play and his passing game and it wont be too different at Salford.
His long kicking game is very average, but his short kicking game is pretty good.

| Is it me or does Morley seem to have a free reign to do whatever he pleases since he joined Salford?

sorry pal!
I don't knock his passing game, which is his only redeeming feature. But, as I say, missing 5/17 tackles (3 of which directly leading to tries) is enough to totally write him off for me.
In my mind they're stats that nullify anything else. They lost by 14 points and he was a perpitraitor for 18.... To say he had an off day doesn't wash with me - his defence has always been diabolical and it'd take a miracle for me to be convinced otherwise.
You expect your half backs to be a speed bump in defence - even if they don't hit and stick, do enough for the bigger guys to come in and finish it off. He neither hits nor sticks. Bloody hell, even Robbie Burrow pulls his weight enough to not get trampled the way Smith does!
(trampled is a bad term however, as he doesn't put his body in any danger of this happening)
......you'd be right to think I aren't a fan

Absolutley correct there.
Always go on a percentage of the tackles missed to attempted
So in that game he attempted to make 17 Tackles and missed 5 of them - Which means he missed around 30% Of his tackles which is ridiculous for any proffesional RL player.
His less experianced half partner missed around 5% of his tackles - Doesnt matter what position you play tackling is a fundamental skill in this game, this (Aswell as his lack of running game) Is why he never could quite hack the NRL.

| I thought I posted a reply Dave. It was very eloquant.
But I'll summarise by saying I like Smith. Having a player like him is worth covering his flaws in my opinion.
I did wonder how it would work at Salford for him. He has well documented issues that were well cared for at Wakefield with him being such a key cog in the engine. At Salford he is under more pressure to perform with more hot heads around to have a go. (on and off the field)
I do wonder if that is a better place for him in the long run. I don't thinki t is.

| I can see the Dr having a meglomaniac " " melt down if Salford continue to perform how they have so far, in order to buy his way where he wants to be.

Spot on - I said exactly that on the VT a couple of weeks ago; it does seem that certain players are given a free pass to do what they like. O'Loughlin never tackles anywhere but the head and neck, Peacock hasn't run on to a legal pass in years and your man Morley is free to swing his arms wherever he likes.
Oh to be a 'big' club eh?

| Just watched it back and it seems no coincidence to me that when the good Dr barks out (go forth and) seconds later in the back ground you can see the pink tops of the officials trotting down the tunnel!

| I wonder if the Dr will receive a hefty fine, like RA did when he had a pop at Child?
