Ok, a few too many handbags on this one but just for the record I'll clarify my position

loud support of Wakefield - good
Intimidating atmosphere - also good
Offensive atmosphere - bad

It was alway's an intimidating atmosphere when it was the old BV which was marvelous ground,and Rocky Turner and co enhanced it too.

Actually I'll expand on my own post.

You can clearly see that when the team is either on a push forward, or even when they are behind the posts after a try, when the "Wakefield! Wakefield!" Chants go up, the team respond. I don't see that as an opnion, I think there is clear evidence to show that.

What I also 'imagine', though don't really have the same evidence is that when its going wrong and the "Cheat! Cheat!" call goes up, or jeering the opposition, they would be demotivated, or at least focussed in the wrong way.
When things are going against you, the crowd getting agitated or even aggressive, causes a responce on the field. I often think a player reacts to a small punch up when the crowd goes up when they might not have done if not.

The point is, some chanting is great for the team but some I think is not.
The Cheat shouting and the offensive chants towards a particular player (which i don't think we have as much of at BV as others do) is not good.

I'm friends with an ex player and get told me get can hear everything that the supporters say

to the extent that he could pick mine and my brothers individual voices out lol

Trick is going to be how to keep atmosphere at new ground?
Any ideas from new stadia that we could suggest for NM (excepting obvious, such as bigger crowd)?
I wonder about Steeper tiered seating; can have a very claustrophobic impact on away team, but don't know how that works in terms of cost ( presumably engineering & material issues more expensive), impact on capacity, etc;
Was told by an ex-pro soccer player that LUFC trick of pushing less popular clubs' away support into a segment at south east end of Elland road was effective in making away players feel there was no travelling support ( I think Whino's pull a similar trick with the undeveloped west terrace vis a vis rest of Headingley).

Wrong!there is no designated away area at Headingley,away supporters can't watch from any part of the ground.There is room

Although your point is correct, the art of "nudge" is employed at headingly, to good effect; the majority of away fans don't congregate on the west stand & you cant tell me that this isn't encouraged ( & you surely agree that the west stand is significantly less well developed than rest of ground). Not an issue for us, as I don't think we bring enough fans to make an impact in a bigger area & at least it allows us to concentrate our support, which hopefully helps our team.
I actually think we are currently following Headingley's lead, after a fashion, in nudging folk away from our North stand, as opposed to evicting them. (See threads on North stand for discussions on rights & wrongs of this)

Before crowds at Heaingley improved significantly,Hulls following used to invade the southand with the obvious intention of competing with the Southstander's and the atmosphere used to be quite threatening,but since the turn of the century there is thankfully not much room for fans who come with a large following.I honestly think it will be a great many years if EVER before the western terrace gets redeveloped.Even with planning permission they ned to find finance,which they are trying to acquire now for the rebuilding of the Southstand.You do have a point though
