Bad news for cas but lets not fool ourselves. The Tory led governments spending cuts have year on year slashed local authority budgets and this will continue into the next parliament. Priorities change and unfortunately I guess that funding sporting clubs and stadiums community or not will become much lower priorities than protecting the most vulnerable etc. just look at Sheffield they are looking to knock down the don valley stadium. Like I said bad news for cas but I'm not optimistic that things will turn out much differently for us.

I'm not sure that this is news. Cas have basically given up on Glasshoughton so this is just a bit of tidying up admin by WMDC, and hardly front page news.

Looking into taking some of it, probably need to find some grants etc for that though.

If Jack Fulton looks at what fev are doing and is prepared to put his hand in his pocket again he may well have a route by which to upgrade Wheldon Rd and save Castleford.

Try explaining that to some on CasForum. This is apparently the culmination of a long term plan to lead them down the garden path, long enough for newmarket to navigate its hurdles and then for WMDC to pull the rug and force a ground share.

The persecution complex some of their fans have is unbelievable.

Only person who led them up the garden path was Tricky, it's not gonna happen now so rightly wmdc have drawn a line in the sand.
A conspiracy against Cas led by the leader of wmdc? A Cas season ticket holder - what a laugh!!!
Some people need saving from themselves!!!

The Cas deal is off the table - for now - but can be reinstated if / when there is a viable proposition in place.

No change at Wakey for now! icon_smile.gif

No change at Wakey for now! The money can be shifted around as seen fit. So if Cas decide to redevelop WR they would have to give up some ownership for community purposes or they won't get the money. That money then could be switched to another project, one that includes a true community stadium perhaps? But once the money has gone, its gone so they best be quick and get something sorted. Wakefields money is safe, the signed s106 agreement will ensure that it will be payed.

I'm a bit surprised that this has come to light now though, i was expecting it in a month or two. I think its a case of the council saying to Cas its now or never. Its time they put GH to bed once and for all and move onto plan B.

I don't think it's as final as you suggest tbh. I don't think it's a case of us profiting from the deal - or lack of!

With the council making more cuts in the next financial year they are looking to avoid spending wherever possible. I think if Cas get the Tesco/nestle deal to fall in their favour then the council will back that. But i would have thought time is of the essence as pressure will mount to move the money elsewhere. Not necessarily to another sports project either.

Cas will get their money if they come up with something soon but the longer it goes on the more likely that money will be spent in other areas. Thats why it has been withdrawn, if it was safe forever then they'd have just left it in place.

ALl that money we have wasted on GH when we could have used it on WR. Annoys me that we would have probably been up to standards by now as well if we'd have pursued re-development

Hindsight is a wonderful thing.
The regular supporters may never know exctly how close your new stadium ever was to becoming a reality and how much was spin from tricky Dicky.
WR was always an excellent prospect for upgrading/ redeveloping and over time could be improved as Widnes' stadiun was.
The stumbling block is cash, which is in very short supply but, there has probably been a few hundred thousand thousand "wasted" on the project.

I don't suppose the money wasted would've been enough to cover costs of developing WR, however the time certainly would've been there.
