Quote: wrencat1873 "Totally agree FT, he turned the game into a farce.
3 times Fev kicked following a knock on and the play was brought back to the point where the ball was kicked.
I've not heard of that rule change and if it has been brought in, it is utterley pointless.
Also, penalties given 3 times for not playing the ball correctly, which is more than you will see for the whole season.

Ali looked class, as did Smith and Lyne and Cockayne were both excellent.
Tbf Mathers was also good with the exception of 1 poor knock on in the 2nd half.

The ref completely wrecked the 2nd half Ali looks like hes lost abit of weight, looks in great shape.

Is that not one of the rule changes trialled on Boxing Day? I didn't interpret any of the rule changes on the press release as allowing it, but from Agar's (and others') comments afterwards about Cowling kicking through for the Mathers try that's one of the new rules - if one team knocks on then the other team essentially have a "free play" and can try anything, as play will be brought back for a scrum if no advantage is found. Sounds bonkers to me (and I'm still not sure I've understood it correctly!)

Good to be back! My observations from today, in no particular order:

Our attacking structure looked good, although we lost a bit of penetration in the second half after Poore was taken off injured.

Singleton is very raw - a long way to go before he's a starting SL prop in my opinion, but looks promising.

Smith looks to have picked up where he left off (that no-look pass to put Wildie away was as good as you'll see) and seems to have packed on a bit of muscle. Cockayne was on fire, Mathers was excellent in attack and barring one mistake, pretty solid at the back.

I like the look of Reece Lyne - he's not as slight as I remember, returns the ball well and has pace to burn.

Big Ali looks to have shed some timber and at one point, I swear he even ran fast.

It was bloody cold.

As I said Lyne has been real impressive. I would like to see him playing plenty in the season.

Thought Ben was outstanding as usual today.Surprised Liam Finn hasn't been given a shot at super league .Without him in the side Fev are going nowhere.

That's a bit harsh it was a friendly and we had half a dozen first teamers missing. We are no where near a one man team. Best team won today no doubt about that. I think the top 8 will be bare minimum for you guys this season. Good luck for next season.

fev did ok in the second half when they had a bit more possession, partly through some controlled play, partly due to our errors.

ben was very good today and looked likely to make a break every time he touched the ball. he especially looked good with lyne as his centre, so that is promising on all accounts.

the new rule seemed pointless today, but as someone pointed out it was in force on boxing day and we did benefit from it, but overall you have to say that it will just tire the players and actually penalises the attacking team quite a bit.

Just saying that Liam was a class act in a good side.I've watched Fev a lot and he makes things happen behind the forward line.there's no one else in the Fev side that can do this what I have seen.I hope you keep him fit and delivers the goods for you.

Well must apologise for that first 25 mins - that is not what we normally serve up

That said Wakefield were excellent and doubt many wouldve handled that

Second half we gave it a go but suspect Wakey were cruising just about, just glad we didnt get walloped

2004 - 2005, very surprised we got rid of him at the time, typical victim of Aussie is better - played well just needed time to mature.

Fev are a good team and the difference in skill even fitness etc is marginal between you and an average SL team (us). I think the real killer difference is size - all across the park we were a lot bigger. In the first 20 minutes I think it's hard for Championship teams to contain whilst over 80 mins it's plain draining, but you did halt us and inflicted some pain even if we were messing around a bit in the second half. We knew we'd been in a game.

Fev could compete in SL given time to develop but would need to recruit - the first few years would be fairly grim but you'd find your feet in the end.

Sadly won't happen, despite the fact that you bring more to the game than most.

I remember thinking he was unfit and pretty average when he left, certainly don't think we missed him.
