He did a great job at FB and could cover Centre/Wing but, IMO, he's not as good as the players that we have now.
100% effort & reliable but I think we already have better.'"
Would put Murphy above Mellars and Smith in the centres and before Mathers at fullback, as long as his stint at the Farts hasn't stumped his development.

Completely agree. Young, British and can fill in all across the backline. Sounds perfect to me if we could get him. Him or Mellars? I know who id go with if one didnt already have a contract with us.
Fergy on the other hand im not so sure. Had really high hopes for him when he came through but i dont think the move has worked out for him at all. If anything he seems to have gone backwards, but then again im only seeing him when he is selected for there tv games, so i may be doing him a mis-service.

| I wonder if there is anything in the Paul McShane deal, as Shaun Lunt has returned to Huddersfield. It would mean that Leeds are going with Rob Burrow and Liam Hood next season, or signing a new hooker, or McShane is staying.

It seems we disagree KK, apart from Smurphs ability to play anywhere in the three quarters, I dont rate him above any of our first choice backs, playing in their usual positions.
As I said before, he is a 100% player and did some good things for us when we were at our lowest point in recent history and you cant knock him for that, but, although his defence is good, IMO he lacks pace and ball skills.

| The lack of information on Poore is promising as it looks like we haven't got Southern & John off the WTW books yet. Even if we get Poore we need another quality prop to add to Amor, Raleigh, Wilkes & James. As previously said we were very lucky with injuries last season and for the starting 17, teams usually have 2 props on the bench.
It'd be good if it was Mose Masoe from Newtown Jets coming off the bench for impact! but it could be a bridge too far financially for us and its more likley that it'll be a bargain basement buy with something to prove if we bolster the front row sufficiently.
The rumour about Bobbie Goulding Junior (21 yrs old) signing from Warrington is also good (if true) as he is a 6 and could cover Sykes if injured/off form. Creates competition for places. Probably come cheaper than John did.
Good news about Mathers as well as I think he is a better attacking full back than Murphy as stated above. We have enough utility backs in Cockayne, Lee Smith, Sykes and Mellars (centre/Wing/Second row) so Murphy wouldn't add anything there either. He should have stayed when he had the chance on the security of a long term deal maybe with WTW if it was offered.

| Why would we want McShane we have just let go a hooker who if not for Aiton getting a broken Jaw would probs not got a game this season.Hooker is an area we dont need to look at so to go for him would not be a logical move.
As for Murphy if Mathers signs we have plenty of cover across the backs with what we have.I would say we need a barnstorming prop to take things to the next stage and a one for the future stand off.Thats one area if we go with Sykes at stand off again and he gets injured we could then find the going hard.

Top six 2005 - Trinity.: |

| If we were to secure Mose masoe and Poore that would be one hell of a double signing. With Amor, raliegh, Wilkes that looks like the best front row we have seen at wakey in years.
I think Murphy would be a good signing and would have him above mathers. The amount of trys he saved with strong tackles and chasing back was impressive. I accept that mathers offers a little more attacking prowess but Murphy would nail to the floor most of what would run at him on the break.
With sykes been on a 1 year I think goulding jr could be waiting in the wings to break into SL action for 2014 and offer cover this coming year.
Also what about Kirke? All gone quiet on him. Thought he would have been announced if we had signed him.

Fair enough, I rate the lad, right from when he broke into the first team. His defence is excellent, and if were honest he had plenty of opportunities to show that off during his final two years at the club. We didn’t really see what he could do at the other end as the way the club played rendered the three quarters pretty much redundant most of the time. From my recollection, when he started out on the wing he certainly showed he could finish.
Also if he were to return perhaps the club could use him as an example for the younger players of what may happen to your career if Huddersfield come calling and your thinking of selling your soul.

| regarding an up and coming youngster to take over sykes.... Liam kay is a stand off, but fills in elsewhere as required (much like paul sykes has done throughout his career). Matty wildie is probably going to become a hooker/ scrum half. As far as im aware booby jnr is a scrum half too, so signing him would be as an understudy to tim smith i would imagine.

| The last I saw of Murphy he was better than Smith is at present.
Can't claim to know how he's playing for Shudds, the same goes for ferguson.
Either way I wouldn't be too bothered about over tinkering, we have the bedrock of a good squad, a couple of quality forwards and some room to manouvre in the transfer market later on in the season should see us very competitive.

| I have to say I am in the Murphy camp. He is good, no doubt. His opportunities were limited with us last time but he was always deceptively fast and in our line now would be a great attacking weapon.
I always preferred him at full back personally. If Mathers stays then less need for him.
I'd have him over Mellors but if Lee Smith can get back to his previous standard then less need for Murphy in the centres either.

| To be honest, even though they are all rumours, being linked with Masoe, Poore, Thurling, Goulding Jr (good prospect) and Murphy shows great ambition from the club!
The double signing of Masoe and Poore would be a major coup and a pretty awesome front row!

| Never seen Masoe or Poore, I'm sure those bigging them haven't either, certainly not enough to form such presumptuous forecasts.
I remember how deverstating Leano was going to be, and a good few others!!!
Lets not start with all this crap again, wait for whoever to come and see how they go!!
