He has played 6 games for the knights this year so it would suggest he is over the op atleast.

He can also play loose i think. If he hits hard in defence then we have made a good signing here.

Really hoping that we sign a quality SO and then we will look in good shape. Still like the look of leon PRYCE at SO for us but unlikely.

Couple of injuries under the belt and an ambition for the year to stay injury free - hopefully he will do. Suppose you dont play this many 1st grade NRL games without having something about you and he's under 30 too, and as long as he stays fit he most probably will be an improvement on the imports we already have

He is a very good defender, he's just the type of player that Elston said they wanted to sign at the recent Trust meeting.

That is how i remember Southern to be. A tough as nails worker.

"Wakefield Trinity Wildcats have confirmed the signing of another recruit for next season, with back-rower Steve Southern inking a three-year deal, subject to work permit.
The 19-year-old has spent the last season with the Newcastle Knights in the NRL, and prior to that he enjoyed six seasons with the North Queensland Cowboys.

A player who has clocked up 129 NRL appearances, ‘Bluey’, as he is nicknamed, played in an NRL Grand Final with the Cowboys in 2005.

“I’m really excited about my future at Wakefield Trinity Wildcats, with a new owner, new Super League licence and new coach it really is the start of something new and I’m stoked to be a part of that,” Southern said.

“I have a lot of family in England and I’ve always wanted to get over here and play Super League. I’m really happy that I’m finally doing that for Wakefield and I can’t wait to get out on the field and put in my all as a Wildcat.”

Trinity chief executive James Elston was also delighted to be welcoming an established NRL player to his club for next season.

“Steve is a great addition to our squad for the next three years, his NRL experience will provide a great boost to many of our younger players and his ruthless playing style will be great for our supporters to see,” he said.

“I have heard many great things about Steve’s work ethic and he has been a popular member with both fans and players at every team he has been at, I’m sure he will be a perfect fit at The Wildcats. I look forward to his arrival and seeing him in action for Wakefield.”
