| Quote: Fordy "But will he?
I thought the rule was about non-federation trained players of which you could have 5 and they could be all Quota players or a mixture.
I know some players get dispensation from the Non-fed rule but only the ones that were playing in SL before the ruling was brought in.
How is it that a Tongan can be exempt from the non-fed trained rule?'"
Thought there was some agreement that meant certain countries cannot be classed as quota, or refused work on those grounds. Maybe wrong but I thought Tongan was one of those.

Yes it may be up to 2 months before he's fit but he's class.
If we take the usual option and buy someone from the lower grades they take time to get up to speed anyway- usually around 2 months!
Nobody in SL will have space in terms of quota spots and cap- We do!!
Just what the doctor ordered! He would offer what we need on the pitch and would excite fans- new and old!
GET ON THIS MR GLOVER PLEASE!!!!'"

| FWIW I don't think he'll go anywhere. KR will 'look after' him while hes deregistered and not playing and should big wille not get his tongan passport Ireckon they'd release other players before Dobson

I do not know who for, Winterstein?'"
Ye we did but JD's was a career threatning injury i think, not a convience to bring in another extra overseas player, accordng to the RFL official guide once he cannot be re-registered this season, he may go on loan for the remainder of the season to free a space up who knows, It is only a guide though !!!!
Taken from RFL Websiten the RFL official guide, rule C1
When asked if Rovers already had such permission, the spokeswoman said they did not.
"As far as we are concerned, Michael Dobson has had his contract with Hull Kingston Rovers terminated and he is now a free agent," the RFL spokeswoman told the Mail.

| He is the sort of player we are looking for and we can offer him the oppertunity to play SL and put himself in the shop window. It is just a shame that he is injured for 2 months but as has been pointed out this is how long it would take us to get an aussie over due to the paperwork.
Mr Glover. If he really is available please try and sign him.

| Get out of Walter Mitty land people, we have no chance of signing him, he'll be back in Rovers colours in two months time, if not HKR, then Saints (same colours) he doesn't need to put himself in a shop window everyone knows what he can do

"You can offer him SL and put himself in the shop window ?"
Where have you been for the last few seasons ??
Dobson has probably been one of the most consistent players
in the competition for the last few seasons ! Why on earth would
he need to be put "in the shop Window" FFS

| Having seen the latest statement by the RFL that KR seem to have agreed a special agreement to re-register Dobson, despite going against the RFL's own rules - should fans of all clubs (obviously except Rovers) not be requesting their club and directly to the RFL that this should not be permitted. The RFL law states that the rule is there to stop clubs stock piling overseas players and then cherry picking who plays on a weekly basis, yet in affect this is what Hull KR are doing. Seems to me they are not bending rules but shattering them - they already took the mickey by getting special dispensation to sign Mason on a Tongan passport (Blocking clubs such as Huddersfield / Salford who had a genuine quota space). Surely registering Mason to the RFL while keeping Dobson's contract should mean Hull KR have exceeded quota regulations and should not have been allowed to go ahead. If they are allowed to get away with this our game will desend into a farce. Why dont Wigan terminate Fieldens contract - sign a prop - Ewan Dowes for example - using Fieldens space on the cap, then simply when Fielden is fit, re-register and send Dowes back. (Fielden then gets paid for painting the chairmans fence while out of the game each month)
Dobson seems to be a topic on most fans forums - each agreeing he's a player that they would like at their club (me included) - what I want to see is each fan and each club not wanting to see Dobson in a KR shirt again this season (as the rules) and our games so called governors enforce the rules they create.
Failing that I urge Hull FC sign Greg inglis because I heard he drank a pint of Guiness once. Apparently he only needs £20,000 a year as his wife as a £300,000 a year cleaning job.

Thank you

There's a decent summary of the position on the Hull websitehttps://www.hullfc.com/newsarticle.aspx?n
The Cotonou agreement for ACP states, along with Kolpak judgement, means that the RFL can't restrict trade by counting them on an overseas quota, and they have rights to work in the EU (subject to visa requirements).
Where I get confused is how the RFL can then go on to count them on the "Non-federation trained" quota and thus still restricting trade?
My confusion is still further compounded by the work visa situation.
AFAIK Mason is still an Australian national. Were HKR switched on enough to get him a work visa as an Australian, even though they were expecting him to be a Tongan before he played? If so how did they do this when they had no room on the quota?
Add that to the Dobson situation....
... confused? You will be, after the next episode of - Soap.

| Keep the sniping on your boards.
This is a WT board!
As far as MD goes I can't see him playing at HKR again this season & if he gets a better offer he could go for good. Which could be karma for the way they appear to be running against the rules, but these are hard times for most clubs tbf.
AG has the money, this would be a massive statement of intent.

| This is fantasy land - all of the statements that are being made are designed to demonstrate that HKR and the RFL are following the correct procedures, and are for the benefit of the outside world; there'll be some kind of compromise agreement in place with Dobson, that stops him from signing for anyone else and no doubt, he's being paid as a consultant or some similar arrangement whilst deregistered.
The RFL are complicit in HKR's shameless rule-bending, to accommodate another big name Aussie has-been, because they think it will attract interest in the sport. It's all a bit embarassing.

| He may well be a free-agent but he doesn't have to sign for someone else if he doesn't want to and then, when he's fit again, I'm sure the RFL will sanction his re-registration.
