Keep franchises out of our game: |
|
| If we put forward an application for a superleague franchise based on at team called Barnsley Barracudas we might get a license ,be allowed write off all our debts , a loan from superleague, and a dispensation to play 17 Aussies every week .and extra Sky games but what would be the point ?

| Quote: Tricky2309 "As people have already said, I don't think the current BOD is up to the task of navigating us through the difficult process of trying to make a credible business plan and franchise application based on plan B.
I genuinely think that there may have been some apathy on the BOD's part in thinking that NM would not get called in, particularly with Rodney Walker involved as he doesn't normally fail when he gets involved in projects of this nature.
The depressing fact is that I don't see anybody coming along now to inject some much needed capital and business acumen into the club.
Just hope the players are out for putting themselves in the shop window and we have a final SL season to be proud off.'"
The way the club has been run in the last couple of years, that has to be a concern. We have no choice but see if they can deliver. I'm confident it is deliverable even with the shower that's in charge at the moment. Hopefully Rodney walker with all his business expertise can become of some king of assistance in this.

Lets hope he does. He does have a financial incentive to ensure our continued survival

| I may proved wrong but I am sure at the meeting where Franny Stephenson outlined the franchise application he was putting together involving the stadium architects plans there was proviso in the bid to play at another ground in the interim providing a 5 year lease had been agreed. It waas stated that this had been done.
Also would Barnsley FC not embrace their stadium being used at a time when no football is being played between May and September? Income they would not normally receive.

| I think Barnsley as a club would be happy because they would be getting extra income and if it meant the survival of the club i would be happy to watch us anywhere.

Serious question this, how much of your support do you think you would retain if you were to play all your home games in Barnsley for the next 5 years. I am not wanting to question your fans loyalty but if you are putting a team of similar quality on the field to the one you have at the moment i think it would be a big ask for even the most die hard fan, but i could be wrong.

I would say 50%, there is a chance that the 2000 souls who make the regular journey from Wakefield would be supplemented with an increase in away supporters plus curious locals so the crowds wouldn't be much lower than what would be expected at BV.

I don't know if i could go with that but you may be correct, I also think that there could well be a big price rise on the gate as i dont think the rent would come cheap. I know it looks as though a move to a football stadium is the only option at the moment but i think this could do more damage to the club than a drop to the championship with the revenue it would lose. But at the moment this is all just speculation.

| No doubt it would be hard, but in any such move the key would be the marketing. A simple scheme permitting Barnsley, if that's where Trinity end up, season ticket holders to gain entry for half price would be a good start.

| I understood it that the minimum lease agreement had to be 5 years but the commitment to play there was open ended- hence if the new stadium was ready in 12 months then the lease would be terminated by mutual consent- so playing at Oakwell for instance would not be for 5 years.

I understand that and it would be all well and good if Barnsley or the council would be ok with a openended deal, but if this thing did drag on for even a 3 year period (thats not to say it will as it could all be sorted in 12 months) i think the damage it would do to the club financially would be very detremental to its future existance.

You could be right but it may come down to Hobsons choice ie. Barnsley or nowhere!!!

"I can tell you the atmosphere was extraordinary at Wheldon Road on big days.
