| Quote: snowie "which happened way earlier in the season, bit like playing with a pack of cards with all the aces gone,
you got to face it we was caught with our trousers down and truly spanked, once we had lost brough newton and tronk that was our season over, we just don't have the money and there was nobody we could even afford to tempt to come and play for us,
if he has got owt about him he should put up a do or die attitude for the last two games, naff all to lose now'"
If we did not have any money, then why sell brough when there was no need to. You could argue that we have not missed our turry or troncy, but Brough is a different matter. As yet Cooke hasnt really done the business for us and whether he is a different type of player or not he was brought in to replace Brough, and even a disinterested Brough would have done better bearing in mind he would have had to play well for a contract from another club next season.

Agreed in hindsight, letting Brough go when we did has caused us lots of issues. Having said that could we have guaranteed that he wouldn't do a Tronc and just sulk if we din't let him go? From what I know of the bloke I really can't decide which way it would have gone, and I don't suppose anyone else can in reality. We can all hazard a guess but that's all it would be, a guess.
The club had to make a decision and maybe if you went back now they might do something differently (or maybe not).
One thing you can't argue with is that losing 3 such influential caused a massive disruption to our season that we have never recovered from. Newton we couldn't have done anything about, the other 2 was in our hands and maybe we made the wrong choice.
Hopefully next year will be better. I'll be there to see (although judging by some of the posts on here recently I might not have many people to talk to)

I have come to the conclusion that even if we were in the top 3 the attendance would be poor
The fact is 90% of the Wakefield public do not give a toss about Wakefield Trinity Wildcats
Unlike other towns and Cities that have a pro RL team
Wigan,St Helens,Hull,Castleford,Warrington
Do the Wakefield public deserve a SL team?
NO
Do the genuine supporters? all too small in numbers YES
Lets face it we did not even sell all our tickets for the semi final at Doncaster a few years ago

Top post and spot on. I don't even think the new stadium will bring them in but I'll keep my fingers crossed.

The City of Wakefield itself is gradually disappearing. We are becoming a suburb of Leeds. The creation of The Metropolitan District began the demise of The City as an entity. It's not been helped by the fact that the MDC has essentially been run by and for the benefit of the outlying districts.
No surprise that the Rugby Club is dying in parallel.
The semi final ticket issue was the fault of the RFL. Casual supporters were put off from the start by the apparent shortage of tickets.

I don't agree that the public of Wakefield aren't bothered about Trinity, even this season the most boring brand of Rugby League displayed at Belle Vue probably ever, its been hard work watching even for the most ardent Trinity fan but still averaged 6000. The towns you've mentioned above have all had success in recent times 80s onwards where we haven't had any real success since the 60's and were in and out of the top division in the 80's and 90's. All the above have grounds that attract atmosphere and have better facilities than Belle vue. The last good season we had, play offs 2004 there was a real buzz and a sense of pride around the City but we didn't build on that and sold our best player and had a rubbish following season so it was back to square one. Put it this way we had never been out of the top division and had the success that St Helens have had we would be getting better crowds than them. There's only 3 big clubs in RL Wigan Leeds and Hull when we move to Newmarket we could be in the group of teams just behind them.

| I think with some hard work from the club with the right players joining and the right performances on the field, year on year we should be able to raise the attendance. We need to market the club more positively and a new stadium will help.We need to make the whole day more attractive to less hardcore fans and get more families to come along.Hopefully the stadium will be the catalyst to turning round the fortunes of the club, I know a fair few people personally that stop away, down to the stadium and I'll bet there's plenty more around Wakey that feel the same way and that goes the same for visiting supporters. It won't be as easy as, build the stadium and the fans will automatically double, but it will help massively in changing the club in to one were we have a chance to build.

| Even if we start losing 100-0 every week in front of 855 people don't lose money paying him off, he did keep us afterall, and nothing to do with Cas losing to Salford at the death.
Seriously we need to stop using the Brough card, 1 player doesn't stop a side conceding nearly 50 points a game.

It was barely amusing the first time you trotted that sad line out, by now its simply tedious.

| "stop using the brough card"?
What kind of statement is that and do you actually watch and understand rugby league?
Danny brough was the only real creative player we had he was the engine room of the wakefield team and when he went it seemed we lost all enthusiasm to play. His kicking game was exceptional, to turn teams round and to tire them out so you can attack them on the back foot. thats what he did for the team. we havent had none of that since he left so its always us on the backfoot conceding points instead of attacking. Every club has got a player who is pivotal in attack and defence! Danny Brough was that man for us and to try and replace him with someone like Cookey was misguided maybe 5 or 6 years ago yes but not now.

| What about selling Nigel Wright or Nathan Wood, have to to drag those up or have we got over them.
Not one of us made those decisions but we all have to live with them, either support what we have or don't, its that simple, going over old ground will not make any difference.

We seriously need to stop using the 'he kept us up in 1874/when moses was a lad card. As to the point about cas losing to Salford you could also say that Wigan only top the table this season because of the games Wire have lost this season it doesn't lessen their achievement in topping the league. Every team relies on other results over the whole season that's kind of how a league works.
