Cooke is playing in a team that is been dominated down the middle, how the hell can the guy make something with that fact?
Give him a sodding break- If its players that need your rollockings is the s in the middle.'"
Quote: kingsway cat "I wondered when this thread may have opened. How can he be judged when hes played out of position in every game hes played???
Ok hes not exactly lit the world up but hes the only out there organising and trying to create things. BJ may as well of not played yesterday as he didnt do a thing! One other thing - who will goal kick if we dont play Paul Cooke???
Once we get a decent half-back who can take the team around the park and move Cooky to 13 then we can judge him.'"
I'm well qualified and capable of judging him now!

| If he was resigned it would show a distinct lack of ambition from the coach and board in my opinion. Some say he's a Loose Forward, but i just don't see the work ethic in him.

| Quote: ry21 "You've got to be joking about BJ! Had he not played yesterday they would have scored 50+. The amount of times he was stuck out on the wing covering for Gleason was ridiculous. No wonder we struggle to create when one of our half backs is covering the wingman.'"
Are you serious??? Rob Burrow gets spotted by the opposition every game and has to make loads of tackles covering or not! Also BJ probably defends out their anyway to get away from seconds rowers running at him all day. If your telling me this is an excuse as to not get involved in attack and take control plus taking the opposition on, then I worry for us. We all know he can do it when he wants but Sunday he was poor and didnt offer us anything in attack!

| Thinking back to sunday now Paul Cooke actually looked threatening down our left hand side at times and put some nice kicks in early in the second half, only thing was there was only 1 runner ever close to him so it was easy to defend against and Child penalised us to death!
Paul Cooke will never boss a game and be a crowd pleaser in the fact that he will not make 40 metre breaks and put in big-hits. To say he has come in half way through the season into a team coached by man obsessed with 6 drives and a kick, playing out of position and carrying the expectations that hes some kind of miracle worker well I dont think hes actually done too bad. Yeh he makes mistakes and hasnt lit the world up but what actually did we expect in the first place???
Paul Cooke is a steady player who is doing a decent job for us in the short term and we should get behind him.
Its the easy option for everyone to blame him for our demise, yet without him I have no idea who will get us around the park and that is not even Paul Cookes natural game!!

Dunno about doing nothing but he should not be allowed to kick in play, kick for touch or kick at goal ever again.

I'm sure he does get picked out in defence but he also has a winger that does his fair share of tackling, hence he is not doing the work of two in defence. It isn't an excuse for him not creating in attack. It was merely a correction to your post suggesting he does 'nothing'. How does he get picked out yet players like Paul king that got skinned on more than one occasion get away without criticism.

| Get rid, I only saw a few seconds of the Widnes Batlet game but that Thackaray ran more in those few seconds than Cooke has done all season.

Fair point Paul King should never have been so wide and did get skinned twice although he for me has been one of the top performers over the past few weeks and offers us something different from the forwards in that he can pass, the one on sunday from the drop-out was class and blanch should have scored rather than stepping inside again!!!
I understand your point about BJ defending but when he is on song (and when he is hes class) I dont imagine he will have done any less defending than he did on sunday??? Look I dont think any player could have walked away on sunday knowing they had performed but BJ did not seem interested and did not take control at all whereas you look at his opposite rangi chase he was demanding the ball and taking us on and looked a different class in the second half.

I personally thought his kicking game wasnt too bad on sunday apart from the one straight into touch in the last few minutes. He laid it on a plate for millard on a couple of occasions and put some nice deep kicks in early in the second half - only problem was Child penalised us to death and we couldnt tackle out wide.
Ok Cooke's coming in for some stick but I think BJ seriously underperformed on sunday, rinaldi didnt look as clinical either.

Your right he is past is best but can still do a decent job for us in the short term if we play him at loose forward and not stand off! hes nowhere near quick enough for stand off but has good experience and can float in and out of games creating things from loose, plus his defence is pretty solid too (dare I say that after the whole team were awful on sunday)!

small problem you need to bend your back to play LF
As for BJ why did we ever sign him again one of the worst halfback overseas signings this club as ever made and we have signed him twice

| Yet again tho. Chase wasn't having to wear hisself out chasing back to make important covering tackles because of his inept winger. I do agree he offered very little in attack but there were at least 9 or 10 players worse than him on Sunday. Just seems some people have had it in for BJ from the day his signing was confirmed. We have to remember he is having to play a role that he was not originally fetched back to do when DB was here.
