Quote: not again "I understand were Jd is comng from, it was unrealistic to think the council would build two stadiums and in his veiws the discussions about possible ground share should have been discussed as a plan b as time is not on our side. He stated that this club has a great history and wants to watch the club doing well at the highest level in years to come and if that means ground share then so be it. If you support the club whole heartedly then if they share a ground 10mins away from were you want it, should not be a problem and i agree. JD loves this club and wants it to move forward he has put seven years of hard work to help the club go forward and i am sure he would be devastated if we lost our super league status. JD speaks without the political speal and from his heart but you cant question he wants the best for our club.

'"

I am sure JD thinks he has the clubs best interests at heart...

7 years is a long time to be at the club and he has proven his loyaly and fans favoutite status.

However I TOTALLY disagree with him...!!

I have [ionly [/ibeen following the club for about 42 years (from my frist visit to Belle Vue which - although I was very young - was sometime around the Watersplash final)... I have held season tickets for longer than JD has been playing the game... I have done bits and pieces of sponsorship, as my funds have allowed.

I find this political jerry-mongering an abhorration!

Wakefield Trinity belong in the City of Wakefield, it is an institution, a bedrock of the community... TBH I was dissappointed with the newmarket option... its too far out of the city centre... (had Trinity played there when I was a kid I probably wouldn't have become a fan!) but it was going to be ours... and that I could support... anything else is not an option in my mind!

No to taking Trinity away from the City...

No to merger...

and now I find myself in the camp of...

No to sharing a ground...

And a BIG FAT no to the manipulative Mr Box.... I hope your insidious plans blow up in your face!

Worries me that the club knew for sometime. Is this the delay in planning?

The common sense approach in me says Glasshoughton everything is in place like train station road links and next to a great big visitor attraction which in its self would attract more fans to the games,But ideally i would love to see our own ground at newmarket,it would have been nice if York Court owned the land down denby dale road and needed the planning permission, has i think all outsiders to both clubs just see it as 1 junction down on a motorway so should be no problem to share where as the other side of the city they'd have different ideas.

Yes they have known about the council wanting both clubs to share a ground, but that’s all the discussions were about, not specifically which site. After all the Newmarket option has always been a ground open for anyone to play at where as Glasshoughton has only been receptive to the idea after the realisation that there is not enough money to construct it.

The planning was put back on the request of the council on the premise that it had something to do with highways, which was news to Yorkcourt, who were expecting a decision last Friday.

I too think Jason is wide of the mark on this one.

Like many on here and many more who aren’t, I've paid due's to Wakefield Trinity over the past 40 odd years that dwarf that of JD and so I find it a little patronising for him to preach loyalty, dedication and sacrifice.

I welcome much of what JD represents and his contribution to the club has been a positive one, he's gone above and beyond the duties his player contract would demand of him. I think, on this subject, he's singing in a different church let alone hymn sheet, if his views are representative or influenced by the of prevailing view at the club then they're in dire need of a wakeup call from the fans.

I suppose he's playing politics. JD knows that Peter Box's Sunday affiliation is going to determine the whole district's financial and sports planning, and so he knows that Glasshoughton will get the nod over Newmarket, just because of one man's self-interest. If that is the reality, then what is JD supposed to say: don't go, don't play there, don't go watch us there? He has to try and build support for an eventuality, because one of two things will happen if we go to Glasshoughton: we will either survive or we won't. Is building support so we can survive with that reality such a bad thing?

We can either be constuctive about it and try and look at the possibilities or as you say take our bats and balls home and get used to the idea of not supporting a SL side. For me, we will just have to make the best of the hand which we've been dealt.

How is years of mismanagement at Wakey (and Cas) the fault of cllr Box ???
If the people in charge of both clubs had done as they should have instead of waiting for some faiygodmother to come along and make everything ok we both would have been in new grounds years ago. Box will make his decision and it looks like it will be GH, logical because of the work already done , but i can empathise with your concerns.
What both clubs need is a cast iron guarantee that this is a temporary measure and the other (whichever) site will be completed later, other than that we should tell them and the RFL to feck off and stay where we are, and let battle recommence whichever league we find ourselves in.

After the intensity of yesterday, it should have shown the loonies at red hall that you just cannot invent rivalry like that, imagine Toulouse v quins. 1500 attendance and as quiet as the grave, even a blind man could see that for fact

IMO the RFL are underestimating the negative impact that the loss of either Wakefield or Castleford to the game (not just SL) would have.

They seem to mistakenly believe that if Cas and or Wakey were to cease existence that Leeds, Bradford, Huddersfield etc would offer a route to professional RL for the districts talented players.
Maybe for a while they would but without the two clubs to inspire them and without the community work that’s done by both clubs, the sporting youth of the WMDC would soon switch their aspirations to other sports. You can't underestimate the effect that seeing his hero at school has on a young kid of 6 or 7 years of age, it inspires them to play the game like their hero and that’s often where the initial urge to pick up a rugby ball and lace on a boot comes from.

When/if a club is lost the WMDC an area which is arguably the most productive in the sport will be also be lost to the game.

I’ve never been against expansion and I'll stand accused of changing my views only because of the threat hanging over Wakefield Trinity, but while the influence of franchising grows so too does my opposition to it.

It matters not whether its Cas or Wakey that get the chop franchising is proving to be a negative force in the game and I am now firmly in the corner of traditional promotion and relegation.

If we are truly going to reduce the number of non Fed trained players to 3 over the next few years then the main arguments for franchising are rendered irrelevant.

I'm very very quickly becoming disillusioned with Rugby League and can see a day when I walk away from all aspects of the sport, now that’s something that I thought I could never even consider and anyone who now me would be shocked to hear that.

Strangley, I've never heard him (JD) speak with so much passion, about anything.

The Clan is right. Children get into rugby league through example, seeing their hero's, people talking about the game in their communities. We (RL) don't have the luxury of a brainwashing media that turns kids onto soccer before they've ever experienced a game. The Rugby League ARE on dangerous ground here.

Lol at the song they played at the end of the interview

* Steve Hackett *

[iStandard bearers match to the tick of the clock
It's a war against time when you're fronting the flock
Determined resolute defiant and strong
Noble and Savage know they belong
In the heart of the city

The battlefield of love a ruffled feathered bed
From fluid moist lips the benediction's said
You love them and leave them with yesterday's guilt
Everything's on schedule in the empire that you built
In the heart of the city

You close a deal Thursday at 7.45
The train home is empty you're the only man alive
You throw away your clothes in a house of clouds
The window is sealed the furniture in shrouds
In the heart of the city[/i

Im affriad Klav is right. I commented on here over a month ago that there would only be one ground as far as officialdom were concerned (the only thing they didnt say was which one).

This has been brewing for some time despite the best efforts of others.

Whats funny :-

The council are funding this trinity walk of fame. How many famous people are from Wakey.
My god most of them will be ex Wakey RL players. Yet the council may not let us have
a professional sporting team/ground in the city of Wakefield what a set of s !

All we can hope for is that this is just one last throw of the desperate dice by Mr Box, and if the feasibility study backs Newmarket, then he will throw his weight behind it. What worries me is the remit of any feasibility study, as the outcome can be determined by the question it is supposed to answer. If the remit is simply which can be built quickest, ignoring any funding issues, then Glasshoughton wins. If the remit is which one is most likely to be built first by taking into account funding, as well as job creation for the Wakefield district, then Newmarket wins.

The worry I have is that the outcome can be influenced simply by asking the study to answer a specific question. The issue will then be what the Community Trust then do, because if the study backs Glasshoughton and Yorkcourt and the Community Trust tell Box to stick it, then I assume neither get built.
