Founder members of the Northern Union. Doesn't guarantee you a place at the top table, but should count for something when your very existence is being questioned.

| I'd support a merged team in principle, if the merger itself was handled correctly and the resultant 'super-club' was properly managed. Rather that, than watch two lame ducks limping along for another few years before dieing a slow death.

| I've gone for top one, if we merge might as well go the whole hog.

| I'd support a merged club that played in Wakefield. I'd also support a merged club that played in Normanton - the fairest location for all 3 clubs, and my location of preference. I wouldn't give a monkey's about any merged club that played anywhere else. I'd rather support Catalans or the Welsh.

| Three separate clubs, three separate identities, three separate collectives of traditional values. No. None of the above should happen. Not only would we miss the rivalry but the whole Team Wakefield District would seem fake and insincere. That would be like asking Batley and Dewsbury to link up with Huddersfield to create Team Kirklees or worse still, asking FC and KR to join forces to create Team Unified Hull or something.
Always been dead set against merges and why should I change my mind on the subject now.

Sorry, I stand corrected. Maybe the Hull unified team should have a bit of a Gateshead flavour in there.

| I hate thread like this, merger is not an option either for us, cas or fev I would rather the winner come from one of the three rather than a combination of any

| I agree with RDM on this one. Merger should be option Z. Only taken when all other routes have been exhausted and imposed by sky/superleague/rfl.
I think at the moment we have still have a good chance of a franchise in our own right. Assuming some progress is made stadium wise in the next 4 months.
I was actually pro merger last time around but clearly the will wasn't there from other clubs. If it had gone ahead where would that team be now?
For me that opportunity has gone and we should push on for a stand alone franchise.

| I have also watched since 60s and if the only option to carry on watching top-flight rugby in the area was to merge then I would be fully behind it, as long as the new team identity did not favour any side. Don't get me wrong I would prefer to watch Wakefield in its own right, but if it meant that we were on the sidelines while another team in the area got all the glory then to me its a no-brainer. It might also mean that we the supporters might enjoy a few more games rather than coming home from a match and feeling sick as a parrot again!!

I've also watched since the 60's and I agree with you. I'd rather watch a merged side provided its a merger rather than a takeover rather that drop into the NL.
I guess it comes down to what you want to see. If you want to watch Wakefield Trinity and are prepared to drop out of SL to preserve the name then that's your choice. I'd much rather merge if that's the only way to stay in SL. I will not watch NL when there is SL. Also I'd like to see a win or two and have a chance of winning some honours.
Of course everything could come together. Planning permission granted, stadium built, franchise for 2012, multi-millionaire put millions into the club and takes us the a Cup and GF double - then unfortunately I woke up.

| This merger talk really pi##es me off.
The WORST CASE scenario must surely be for WAKEY & CAS to share a stadium which is located centrally in the Wakefield area.
This way we have a show piece West Yorkshire arena can then be used by all other local sport clubs, cuts the costs of 2 stadiums and enables both Wakey & Cas to remain within SL.
It's a no brainer IMHO - especially in the current economic climate.
