| Very sad to see him leave. He's given his all (and more if that is possible). We are a better club for him being here but all careers have to end at some time.
Hope he gets another club if that's what he wants but to be honest (money apart) I reckon he deserves the rest.

No. He has an EU passport. He is also exempt from the non-fed regulations.

Wakefield captain Jason Demetriou is looking for a new club for 2011 after revealing the Wildcats will not offer him a new contract.
The 34-year-old centre or loose forward, who is currently enjoying a three-month testimonial awarded by the Rugby Football League in recognition of a decade's service to the English game, insists he is not yet ready to hang up his boots.
"I am really enjoying playing at the moment and feel I can play another seeason," Demetriou told the League Weekly newspaper.
"It would have been nice to stay with Wakefield and finish my career with them but it's not to be. I've no hard feelings towards the club.
"Hopefully, I'll get another Super League club. I think I have a lot to offer still and to play 10 years of Super League would be something to be proud of."
Demetriou, who also hopes to play for Greece in next year's World Cup qualifiers, began his English career with the now defunct Lancashire Lynx in 1999.

| With this decision by the club not to offer a new deal for JD I can see Kear going as well at the end of the season.
Thanks JD all the best for the future.

Sorry - you can copy extracts on here, but not re-print the whole article!

Got the gyst, thanks.
Glad we haven't let sentiment get in the way of business. Name a bar after him in the new stadium.

| As previously mentioned, when he first came to the club and played at full back I thought he looked like the slowest full back in the league! The switch to centre was a master stroke and he proved to be an exceptional signing. Given his all for the club on the field and a top bloke off the field.

| Sorry to see him go. He's seen the club (and players) through some difficult times. Whoever comes after him has some big boots to fill.

Think (and I might be wrong) but if moves to another club he loses his exemption from the non fed regulations.
If so he would find it hard to get a contract with another Sl club.

I think he is way past his best however and i think that he should retire rather than risk being embarrased next season.
I would personally have liked us to give him a coaching role.'" Well said i am with you on that.

| I have already posted on this thread and whilst I think it is great that we are all posting messages of support, reading it makes it look like he has gone already.
I wouldn't want JD to think we don't want him to continue for the rest of this season.
Keep it up Jason and get us into the playoffs again. Hope you do find another club if you want to play on after this season but in the meantime I would like to see you continue to do what you have done for Wakefield for the past 7 years.

| Tough call but the correct one for the club, he gives everything but looks like he is running on old legs.
The word is banded about too much for me but in this case I feel given what he has done both on and off the field he should very much be regarded as a legend of the club.

| Sad news would have liked him to lead us out in our new ground. Morrison should be the captain. This guy has been an amazing servent who could have gone to Wigan. I still think he is a far better centre than Gleeson without a doubt. Upsetting news but can understand why. Certainly the most memorable player for this club over the last 20 years for his outstanding dedication. Hope we finish the season strongly and get a kicker for him to have one last final hooorah in the wakey shirt.
