Let's be honest, he can't be as bad as Gleeson whatever happpens.
Not worth taking a gamble if he uses a quota spot. IMO the quota spots should be used to bring in established quality players not to give someone a go on the off chance.

You are probably right - but I'll say it again, we are completely hamstrung by the fact that we cannot offer anyonw a guarantee that we will be in SL after 2011. Until we sort this stadium out and get it moving, we will struggle to compete for any player who wants more than a 12 month deal.
I would think that JJP is an ideal candidate for us, in that he has little to lose for one year and, if everything works out - stadium and player wise - then he will be in a better position to command a deal with either us or another SL club.
We are, for next year at least, in no stronger a position than we were during the first 5/6 seasons of SL. We will be fighting a relegation battle - off the pitch rather than on it!

| Sorry - Have I missed something.....?
Would he REALLY take a Quota spot?
If that is the case then I'd tend to agree, not worth a quota space otherwise a worth a gamble IMHO.

Long since lost track of how rules for SL quota & non fed work but he is not a quota player at Championship Level. Papua New Guinea is covered by the rlCotonou Agreementrl so subject to visa/permit Papuans are not classed as overseas players. Of course this being RL there is no guarantee that the same rules apply to all clubs/competitions.

Under SL rules I would have thought he would count as Non-federation trained (not quota) but assuming the number of non-fed places reduces along with the quota places then still not worth taking that place either IMO.
This year it is 6 non-fed of which 5 can be Quota players I believe. Is next year 5 non-fed of which 4 can be quota????
Perhaps someone can confirm but my thoughts are that we currently have:
Quota - BJ, Morrison, Millard, Obst
Non-Fed - Laeano
I know BJ and now Morrison are signed up for next year already. I think we signed Millard on 2 year deal. Sam I believe is also signed up for 2011. That would mean the only overseas place we have for next year is the non-fed place and so Jesse Joe Parker is maybe a gamble we can't afford at this moment in time. Hoping to see enough from Charlie to mean he will take that place next year.

The problem with "one for the future signings," is as soon as they make a name at Wakey, they are given away to another club to persue their career. We need players that will advance Wakefield Wildcats now and be happy to stay, to see out their contracts.

| Good player at our level. Not the best centre in the championship and in some games this season, not the best centre at Fev!!!
I'd stick with him if he'd signed an extension cos he'll do a cracking job at this level. But - he's signed a one year deal with wakey.
He's not anywhere near SL quality IMO. He has neither the pace, athleticism or defensive abilities for SL, even at a club like Wakey i.e. not Leeds, Wigan Saints!!
Begs me to wonder why Wakey are offering deals to the quality of player like Jesse and not proven players in that position. As TRB suggests, confidence in a licence must be very questionable.

If you come down to the championship wait for it then!!
Players like young Richie Newlove, jamie Rooney, Danny Kirmond, Jesse Joe Parker - all of whom "made a name for themselves" at Fev, ended up persuing their careers at other clubs!
Can be a right pain in the @rse!!

Agree totally about Parker, completely different level playing against keighley etc than to that even at the lower end of sl

Yes and there are so many other great ex Fev players, who left to ply their trade elsewhere.
