Some good teams posted already by the 'young uns' on here.
However if they had been lucky enough to see the likes of Neil Fox in his prime it would have taken their views on what is a good player to another level.

it wasn't until I viewed a dvd on the wigan v wakefield cup final did I know how good Harold Poynton stand off and Mal Sampson who was at prop one of the unsung heros,
the contest in the scrum was a continuous grind and always seemed to have the upper hand against his opposite player not only that he was always available for the drives and managed to slip through to score (first prop to score at Wembley so I'm lead to believe) in them days there wasn't the comfort zone of coming off for a brief spell
I still see him walking his labrador at the stanley ground with two ski sticks to help keep going due to his health, he will always find to to chat to the kids and is proud to show them his winning medal,
Poynton seemed to open up the defense so easily like a knife through butter

Harold Poynton and Toppo were classic stand offs. Wally Lewis, Henry Paul etc, were just as great but they played with a different style in a different era. However Poynton had the edge on all the others I have mentioned in defence.
If you ask uncle ted who is favourite all time player at Trinity was he'll tell you Harold Poynton.
