| I understand that we are keen to keep Drew, and that he is ` a pleasure ` to deal with, a true pro who has yet to decide if he can do another season. He is very happy at Wakefield. If he feels that he can play to the very high standards that he sets himself then he will play on.
He would like to play at Trinity, but I suppose if another club comes in with an offer that far exceeds our offer then he has to consider it.
It would be great to keep Drew but we have to prepare for life without him just incase he retires or moves on. He is our best player, the only player we have who can unlock a good defence, the only player who can marshal the team around the park, the only player who can read the game knowing exactly what is required. The rest of the squad have many good attributes all required to complete the team, but none have the skills that Drew gives us.
His passing is top class, just look at the way our forwards are able to run onto the ball without breaking stride, look at the quality of service Brough gets from Drew, Drew ` hits ` him perfectly 19 out of 20 times. Compare this with passing from Obst or Latu ( I know these players offer other things ), forwards having to check their runs, Brough getting the ball at his feet, behind him, over his head. Look at the service poor old Richard Moore got from Latu on Sunday, I think its called Pinderfields Service. Dont get me wrong I like Latu, as an impact player he is great, and Obst is a top defender but neither can run a game.
In the few games that Drew has played for Trinity he has won more games for us than any other player in our SL history and I include Solo , Poaching and Ellis in this.
If Drew goes we need a hooker who can pass and who can run the game and I think Newton fits that bill.

There is bite and then there is just plain thuggery. Still, ability wise I would rather him be on Trinity’s side then the oppositions.

| Oh well I suppose it would mean at least he won't be trying to kill our players in games anymore, only in training!!!!!!

Perhaps both will be going.
Latu I think is in his last year of contract I admit I don’t know how these things work but he may have to reapply for a Visa. Given his past misdemeanours I think it’s safe to say that if he does require a new Visa then he is unlikely to be granted one.
Obst seems to have gone a little stale over the past few weeks. Maybe it’s they way he is being utilised but he just doesn’t seem the play he was. He maybe needs a change too and where better to go then the Bradford retirement home for Wakefield players.

Either he doesn't want to play for us, which I don't think is evident from his performances, or someone else has offered more, which is a big call for someone who must be coming towards the end of their career and at risk of injuries.
Do you think he wants to go back home?'"
Not yet at least, he'll do another season but at what club i don't know.

| I have heard that Drew will be joining our neighbours Castleford with James Evans heading back to Wakefield.

If he does move on, the Celtic Crusaders could do worse then to snap him up for a year. He will certainly guide them around the park.

| Newton - For me it would be governed by his attitude and desire. He knows that he has ability and is a former international, if his attitude is that he has nothing to prove and will be a good signing for any SL team then we would be getting an adequate player. If he found the motivation at this stage of his career to look at his fitness levels - lose 7-10lb and look towards international recall then he would be a great signing. I know what people say about cheap shots and i dont like that, what i do like is a very aggressive attitude that views every game as a personal battle and wants to impose themselves physicaly on the opposition.

| Martin could be on way out......
Not sure about Newton though, always seems a bit of a thug but decent player on his day. Not sure if he is much better than we already have and I guess he would be on much more money.

Would be happy with that......no doubt the Drew is class, but it might be one year to many, similar with Martin, think he has been v.good this year, but age is not on his side. Rooney needs a new challenge and for what we are getting is expensive.
With the above three gone it will free up loads of cap space for improved contracts for the likes of Blaymire, Atkins, Brough etc and leave enough for some quality replacements.....maybe Tronc, Newton etc.

| If true, superb news. Newton is the player you hate unless he is one of ours, and I love him now. I think he is just what we want, a top quality player, over the hill or near there is no issue to me, and if we get that big bu66er Tronc then all the better too.

sounds about right to me that.
personally think drew might do another year ok and cant see latu being here next. when is obst's contract up?
would like to think that should we cut our first team hookers to 2 next year then davey could be relied upon to fill in for injuries.
