| Quote: The Avenger "Let's not lose sight of it being Brian Smith that's chosen to walk rather than see the job through. He's had money to spend and has retained, resigned and recruited as he saw fit, many of us were puzzled by his obsession with back rowers when we obviously needed a half and a centre. Here we are 5 games in and guess what, we are desperately short of a half and a centre!
Why hasn't Tony Smith allowed Declan Patton to join us on loan, why did we miss out on Gareth O'Brien, Theo Fages on loan, Martin Ridyard when he looked surplus to Leigh's requirements? Brian Smith was convinced that we were OK with Finn and Miller so didn't prioritise the half back position and it was he who had the say on signings.
Other than upping our Salary Cap spend, MC hasn't had anything to do with building the squad, it's all been BS!'"
Just trawled through 15 pages of mainly bitterness from the usual suspects, tempered with quite a few sensible posts' from those not interested in attaching blame but merely trying to put a sensible perspective on the matter, whatever anybodies opinion is on the subject personally I think they would be hard pushed to disagree with this post chose which camp they are in.

So players pick and choose whether they perform ...wonder what the paying public think of that ?

If I was short sighted I could become a referee!: |
|
| Like many others I was starting to doubt that BS had the ability to motivate the senior players and he also failed to organise the defence. If you are faced with opponent's that are stronger faster and more skilful as we were on Sunday the only way you can win is to out enthuse them be disciplined organised and as fit as them and you will still lose more times than you win.At times on the first 20 our defensive line just stood and watched and when we conceded did out stand in captain either encourage or chastise the team. I was stood behind the posts and just saw heads go down. Top players and especially up and coming players will not come to Wakefield even if we did have the money because the reputation of the club is of a badly run business. MC May have balanced the books but he treats supporters with contempt time and time again so probably does the same with the players. We chop and change but never get it right. Now already another debacle casts doubt in prospective players minds that this is a suitable place to come .It will take a long time to improve our reputation and I don't think a new coach whowever it is will be able to persuade players of the class of Todd Carney or Dave Taylor to come to this club even if MC won Euromillions.

You ask whether he was all that then go on to say we have improved, he has attracted a higher calibre of player and results have improved. So you've answered your own question, yes he was. And he is a damn sight better than the guy that is getting the job.

| I'm a bit miffed by his decision to quit
We all knew it was going to be work in progress , not many of us thought there was going to be a one season miracle and things were just going to fall into place, and even smith himself said it would take time. Though not all the results went our way I thought we were making some progress ...so why quit now..
After keeping us up in the million pound game, he could off walked knowing he had done his job. He decided to come back and committed to a one year deal ..He knew we didn't have a pot to in and that funds would be limited and set about putting his team together.....so if he knew this was all going to take time to come together. Why up sticks 5 games in .when he could of seen his year out putting the structures in place for the clud to move forward, even help point us in the right direction to pick his successor .
So has he fallen out over not being able to bring in players? Well he can't take the hump about that because he knew the score back end of the Middle 8s we had no money!!!
I've also read somewhere that he "didn't have the energy to move that club forward". But surely he knew it was going to be along haul, and like the rest of us ,
tough times lay ahead!!
i think funds will be the root of his decision to go and I doubt we will ever find out wether promises were or were not made .there is a press conference tomorrow so that should be interesting
But if it was funding, I will feel as though he has let us down. He knew before a ball was kicked how tough the job is.and I actually thought he was doing good even if the results were not what we had hoped for..

Just supposing he was promised money for players but it didn't materialise - any different now?

| Don't think we will learn anything at the press conference . MC is hardly going to say BS has gone because I wouldn't give him the money to sign new players. If he did want money to bring in a new stand off why didn't he use the money spent in resigning Miller Arundel Molloy Walker etc in the close season until waiting until now .We all knew Miller wasn't up to the job . Hull told us that .I mentioned in my earlier post why he didn't get a decent 6. No decent 6 would come. Not even a Normanton bred one who preferred a season loan at cas

We have improved because we have better players. Whether or not those players would have come without Brian Smith is a matter of debate. The fact is James Webster won more super league games last season than Brian Smith with 'worse' players. So, I'll ask again, why is it that there is such a reaction he has left when he has won 2 games against super league teams?
For me, a lot has to rest on the players' shoulders. Some of these players have turned from solid super league players to donkeys seemingly overnight last season. If they don't want to be at the club they should have had the stomach to leave in the summer. Naming no names.

He received money for players!
He recruited, He retained and He resigned the players he wanted!
He had a bigger player budget than either Agar or Webster and he had the opportunity to move players on at the end of last year to create even more wriggle room.
If he got his squad decisions wrong and then asked for more, who's fault is that?
If he did ask for more money to spend then I'm 100% sure that Carter would have done all he could to shuffle the furniture and find some money. However, if it wasn't enough and Smiths taken the hump, ultimately taking his bat n ball home then how can Carter be blamed?
