Extremely.
I once found myself at a Saxon concert, with a backstage pass to boot; it was one of the saddest things I've ever seen.

| Sweet concerts !!!!
Sweet were a massively underrated band - everyone remembers the glam rock singles - but their albums were real metal classics - if you want proof have a listen to tracks from the albums 'Give Us A Wink' or 'Sweet Fanny Adams' - they were also major influences on the likes of Def Leppard, Motley Crue, Poison and others (OK that may not neccessarily be a good recommendation).
Been a fan since 1972 and I rank them up there with some of the best including Deep Purple and Slade.
Nearly everyone who's taken the Mick has relented when they've listended to the albums - go on, give it a go, you know you want to.....

quite agree,I thought they were great ! but I used to watch (and still do) all types of music - Sweet did some good stuff - Nazareth & Badfinger and the brilliant Budgie also did a good live show and does anyone recall a band called Hustler ? their most well known track was probably 'Get Out Of My House" which got loads of airplay on Caroline.

Strange band, didn't the Wombles bloke write their early crap bubblegum stuff which sold by the truck load? Did he leave and they went galm and made even more dosh - only to drop the glam stuff write all their own really good stuff IMO which they couldn't give away!
Deep down the British public really love naff, and once you've been naff you never escape it unfortunately.
I suspect that's why most of the 1960's bands retain such credibility and respectability even if the music was not technically as good. That and the fact they did it first. The 60's were the coolest decade ever, it was inevitable they would be followed by the naffest and it was I remember it decade ever IMHO. There have been many attempts to rehabilitate the 70's and all have failed. For every Zepplin there was a Bay City rollers x 6 and that's all that folk remember - no one remembers Ken Dodd being one of the major chart toppers in the sixties.
I feel for bands like Slade and Sweet who had they been at their peak in any other era would be hugely respected, lifes all about timing! - bit like RL.

Chinn and Chapman were the songwriters who wrote just about all of the hits. Sweet had two parallel careers going on at the same time - the glam thing with the Chinn/Chapman songs and also their own, heavier material (played without the make up and spangles).
As for the 70's not being all they were cracked up to be music-wise, here is some damning evidence for the prosecution...

it's called 'nostalgia' mate - I remember Ken Dodd at no.1 in the mid 60s and saw him at his summer season show in Yarmouth. The 60s & 70s were full of Ken Dodd type performers
