| Bang on the money with both posts Seth. The issue of winning and losing is an issue with the coach.
The level 1 coaching badge does very little to address this either. In fact I am not really sure what it does apart from let a group of blokes throw a rugby ball about for 2 days of a month.
I personally try to ensure all players are coached the same set of skills regardless of size or ability. All kids get the same amount of game time regardless of ability even to the potential detriment of the result. I have seen examples in games where subs do not get used at all by come coaches, or where 1 player gets 3 drives in a set because they are the biggest.
I am passionate about junior development and part of that development is encouraging competition. I am a big fan of the principles of Muscular Christianity encouraging competition and outcome goals. Is it the be all and end all? No skill development and fun is but to question if winning and losing matters I think is wrong as it does to the kids.
When I was involved with Academy rugby I was far less worried about winning and losing than I am now as those lads had hopefully developed the competitive trait. That for me was purely about getting players to First Team level.
Junior coaches are molding personalities at a crucial age and competitive spirit and confidence for future success in whatever they do is important in my opinion.

| Panthers 14s game with siddal was abandoned 10 minutes into the second half due to a serious leg injury to a siddal player. The panthers were leading 14-0 at the time and in complete control. I'm not sure if the result will stand given the circumstances.
I hope the lad isn't has badly injured has he looked and I wish him a speedy recovery.
Has for the panthers this was another step in the right direction with some cruel defence on a much bigger side.

| Quote: jonh "The new rules are a joke. They are aimed at developing skill and stoping individual players dominating games. My youngest tonight scored 9 tries under the new rules, last week he scored 8. Some players don't get the ball because the dominant players were taking it on their own to play between themselves. Players were throwing the ball anywhere pushing rather than tackling and running backwards to avoid contact.
My youngest after tonight asked me if he could give football a go because he no longer enjoys "playing" rugby league he is not alone in his age group of kids who find the new rules, the ref at the end says there are no winners the kids stand round wondering what is the point.
I would be happy for anyone to watch my U9s they play to because they enjoy it but they also enjoy it more when they win. It is not the be all and end all but it is important. Still what would I know.
Genuine question then why does it suddenly become important to start recording or acknowledging wins at 12 more than it does at 7?'"
I think its to do with the league set up.

| Didnt get to go , in fact just having a " well " mo to report that crigg are still looking for 1st win of season but a much better performance in a 36-6 defeat.
I do hope the young Siddal lad recovers ASAP and no long lasting effects are evident

Fair enough.
You did though post specifically about under 8's match reports directly below my Under 8's match report, and I am the only person who generally posts Under 8's match reports so you can see why I asked the question.
I also believe jonh coaches the Under 9's, so perhaps it's you that have clearly not read the thread.

eh !
I was referring to certain posters from certain clubs having fixations on Crigglestones under 14s Results and going ons.
Thanks for proving the point by spouting out some bullcrap you got from a friend of a friend.

Great win for east hull over wests I can really see it been nip and tuck all year.'"
All due respect Panthers have had the softer of starts to the season. But like I said before have built up a squad.
No excuses this this time its down to coaching so you have the burden now bray.

| Yes all tries from the under 8s should be counted and we should also have an international set up by 9. Forget those who dont find their feet they can play on the xbox.
Pay them £5 a try and watch them play as a team.
My mate as a son who as been told his son is a man now . Hes 12 and looks 9 ,ggrowth hormone anyone ? I won't embarrass the famous club.
Go 6 year olds.

What a very odd post.
I do not see anyone at any stage of this taking that stance.
I do wonder if people just read what they want to read on these forums despite what is actually there.
For what it's worth another great performance from Stanley U9's at the weekend. Kids are really coming on and their defense has been outstanding so far this season, but what is especially pleasing to see is some of the less confident players, of which my oldest son is one, are really improving and growing in confidence. Dare I say it we also won.
Most satisfying for me though was I left the field for the final few sets and let the players run things themselves and they did a great job doing this without any guidance.
The main "issue" I have at the moment is numbers, we have 16 signed on players as I refuse to turn kids away, but it is difficult ensuring all the kids get the same game time when you regularly play clubs with much smaller squads. It's a nice problem to have though as all the kids are great lads and are forming a sense of togetherness.

We have the same issue with numbers, and it's a nice problem to have but a problem non the less. We basically end up swapping the team completely at half time, the obvious problem is the lads get no sort of continuity. Luckily everybody has been understanding and the parents appear to be happy and it gives us plenty of cover when the summer comes and holidays kick in.
We played West Leeds this weekend, and they gave us a good game - they had 2 really big lads who ran very hard and our lads struggled to get to grips with them early on. We let a few of our smaller boys play just about all of the game and they should come on for the game time. West Leeds gave us a good game and it was close all the way, just the way we like it.
Individually we tackled very well for most of the game when we got used to them - but we struggled to defend as a line. Does anybody have any games that can be used to try prevent the lads from all sucking towards the ball carrier? I am thinking of simply cutting the field in half and splitting the defenders to half on the left and half on the right and not letting them cross the line, anybody any suggestions?
We have Heworth away this weekend so hopefully another close competitive game.

| Lets be carefull whats said on here, its supposed to be about junior rugby league, its players and coaches and the many good folk who support and help out at local clubs.
Its not for inter club or personal squabbles.
