Had two wins and a close one against Saints, so he gets dropped for HKR?
Our captain is struggling for form and fitness, so our VC gets dropped, hardly inspiring the team.
Unless our coach has an ace up his sleeve?'"
I didn't understand the HKR one especially after London however I dont know if Mathers had bod on thus his performance against Leeds in the CC but I dont think he has ever played well again them. He gives up way to easily. Sometimes you watch him mess up and hes quick to blame other players around him.

| I'm struggling how to put this without being shot down but we did have it at Cas with Richie. Look how many clubs he has had and he must be getting near to his longest spell any where now with the Trin. He looked good at Cas because at first every body was conned by his actions and it looks from the verbals that he is doing a lot of organising at the back. He wasn't and i know a certain young cas player who did a brilliant impersonation of him behind his back to the rest of the squad. He certainly knows how to pass the blame. Sorry again if it sounds like a Cas v Wakey post

| If the coach is going to keep dropping Mathers, maybe it's time to hand over the VC armband to someone who will put their body on the line and be picked every week?
Also maybe DK would benefit from being relieved of the captaincy so he can concentrate on getting fit without the burden of feeling that he has to play as captain, when he is all mashed up?

| He has been a good player (Leeds Warrington).
But......he is not a young man anymore. His mobility across the back has been very poor. I have watched him quite closely because it was obvious he wasn't doing his job 100%
He reacts very slowly to the kick and leaves it for the wingers to collect. While other players are moving towards the ball he is still thinking shall I shan't I. And he looks far too musclebound - it almost seems to restrict his agility - maybe I am looking to closely!
Some of the other Super League full backs - who I assume are a lot younger - are throwing their bodies all over the place and are far more dynamic.
I don't slag the players cos I think players always try to do their best - even if it isn't their best. However, Mathers I suspect and hope is at the end of his career with us at Wakefield. Maybe a new start somewhere else might create a bit of a spark for him.

Completely agree with you. How it's taken people this long to realise I don't know. The man is gutless. Not only gutless but slower than a prop. Not to mention his handling is questionable for a full-back.

It's not that people haven't noticed, more so the alternatives are even worse. Still think the club should've gone for Greyston when he came back from Aus. Hopefully the young lad Jowett will get a chance in the championship next season, once Agar has left of course.

| And who do you think will want him Fergus he'll have to drop at least two divisions could possibly make a new start in national conference ,you talk as if he's a pensioner sorry if I don't show him respect or sympathy in my opinion he's pinched money for the last two season all his other clubs taken in by his early days at Leeds soon saw his failings and got rid alas his time at Wakefield as been cushy ,picked after poor displays defended by folk on here with cries who could we afford better suddenly were trying different fullbacks I despair that the man in charge couldn't see it coming

| I am too polite and generous try scorer - yep maybe you are right, where else would he go in Super League???
Wouldn't it be nice to see a fullback who 'buzzed' everytime the ball came his way. Cockayne had his faults but he was always up for it when he had the ball in his hands - shame he didn't stay and Mathers go. Ah well.....onwards and upwards???

| Going to go with a different slant on Mathers.
He was signed by RA, given the VC, so that puts him in the domestic signing untouchable bracket along with Lyne and Washbrook.
Maybe he has used his role as VC to question the coaching ability of our coach after progress was being made?
For that he has been banished!

| IMO Mathers has always been a "pillar to post" player, never thrilling or enthusiastic rugby from him whether at Leeds, Castleford or any other of the 7 or so teams hes played for.
I say good riddance if rumors are true.
