| Quote: TRB "There isn't a clue - it's all speculation.
The point is, if JK thinks he can use that money to get someone who he thinks will improve us - then he will - and with my blessing - however much it hurts at the time, as we become attached to 'our' players.'"
Phil, my rant is not about the possible sale of Danny Brough. I don't care who we sell if that sale is to bring in better players that will improve the team and it is with the knowledge and blessing of John Kear.
My bitch is about the poor attendances and my opinion that we need to improve our marketing. I understand that Castleford are marketing the Barnsley area, Bradford used to market in Wakefield - where are we marketing. We have an excellent Community Programme which we can build on but I feel that our marketing is not up to scratch - just an opinion and happy to be put right but we should be getting more people coming through the gates - we can't just sit and expect people just to come and watch, you have to work at it and speculate to accumulate.

I was also thinking along those lines. Recently I was in a builders merchants in Barnsley. I go there quite often and usually the talk around the trade counter is football. However this time the conversation got on about rugby league. I hung around a bit to see how it went and I was suprised to hear that two of the guys went to watch cas and one went to watch Huddersfield. There was no mention of Wakefield whatsoever.
I know our team do a great job around the schools in Wakey but I would be interested to know how far out they stretch do they put the same effort into places like Crofton, Hemsworth,Royston.

| The main reason why Wigan get good crowds is they have the total monopoly of rugby league fans north of Wigan. I know a lot of people who go to watch Wigan just because they are the nearest Super League team, often from twenty miles away and more, even though they have no connection at all with the town of Wigan. We should have the Barnsley area sewn up.
Was chatting to a Barnsley football fan a few months ago at a football event for one of my lads. I was wearing a Wakey jacket, and he started reminiscing about the Oakwell terraces being dominated by Trinity chants in the eighties, and how all the Barnsley fans used to watch Trinity.

Agreed but as I have said earlier and Prince Buster has confirmed Castleford are in there pulling in fans, what are we doing.
Get some free tickets (dirty words) into the businesses, pubs and clubs and try to entice people to Belle Vue, you never know they may come again and pay next time. May be a bit extreme but take a game to Oakwell (done it before) and promote it around the Barnsley area. I know its a football area but we play mostly on Sunday's in in the summer so there is room for both (wallets permitting).

I think we are really missing a trick here. We have JK who lives in Barnsley
and he is well known and respected over there. I even seem to remember him saying there is potentially a lot of interest in the game and we ought to try and push the marketing out there. Way back into the 60's there was a branch of our supporters club in Barnsley and the Barnsley chronicle had a coloumn everyweek about Trinity.
Also the soccer side is on the slide and could be relegated soon. This could make the hire of the ground a little cheaper and it may be worth trying the odd game over there again .

Quite agree - I think our marketing lags way behind other aspects in the club. I do offer comment to Ted when I see stuff that needs addressing - such as the fact that we need to separate ticket sales from the shop on match days - as people are walking away rather than queuing to go into the shop and spend their cash. I also said that I disagree with discounting per-se and that we should go back to 'adding value' - sad X-factor rejects or not - it worked!
The thread is about Danny though, and many seem to have accepted the premise that we are 'cashing in without thought' when this is not true and no-one has any evidence to suggest that it is. EVEN IF we sell Danny (and I don't think we will at this stage), then it will be with JK's blessing and his belief that he can better our squad. To think otherwise is to undermine the people who have worked so hard to keep us in SL, deliver us a top 5 place at this time and the promise of a new stadium - which is deliverable.

How can it not be a negative to have our squad disrupted at this stage of the season.'"
As yet nothing has happened but don't let that stop everyone jumping in with their size 11's bemoaning everything and everyone under the sun. Sadly we will end up with the team/squad that the majority deserve.

If the new stadium would be due to be opened in say, January 2012, and the franchise applications had to be submitted in 2011, as long as the ground was being built, would it be a worth leaving Belle Vue at the end of 2010 and playing one season at Oakwell? I wouldn't support the idea as a permanent thing, but for one season it could be a good advert before the new stadium opens. Or, as someone said, perhaps play one juicy fixture a year there. Leeds at home maybe? Or would it cost the club too much revenue? On the basis that Cas should have the Selby and York side to play at, we are gifting them a marketing area if we don't go into South Yorkshire, particularly if we have a history of support there.
If I see a rugby shirt around Preston, and I frequently do, it is a Wigan shirt, and it is hard to call them glory hunters as Wigan are the nearest side. That is why a small place like Wigan gets good support, because it is Wigan and all points north. For us, it should be Wakefield and all points south.
I can only presume the credit crunch is having an effect, people cautious about spending money, and we have shrunk back to the hardcore. A lot of the clubs are having lower crowds this year, and so it's not just us.

| The sporting public in Barnsley are used to modern soccer standard facilities if they came to Belle Vue it would be like a trip back into the dark ages,so It may be a liitle dificult to sell our club right now, but we should at least be doing some groundwork out there prior to our new stadium. So for me the odd game at Barnsley or even a season there pending our new stadium could work.
The type of games I would take to Barnsley would be Catalan,Celtic or Quins. From what I hear those fixtures don't even give us enough 'pay on the day' revenue to pay for the stewarding so we would have nothing to loose and all to gain

| Quote: snowie "not for me robinson has been found wanting a few times his kicking prowess is not as good as broughy's, hes slower, broughy can take the conversions, and his tackling is far superior, for me it would be like owning a porsche and trading it in for a fiesta
Those porsches aren't always as reliable as you think though, and if you stretch yourself to get one, you've nothing left to spend on other things. It drinks juice like nothing else you've seen, and your wife gets sick of being skint, because you've spent all your money on the porsche. And sometimes it's a tough emotional upkeep, because you've got to be careful how you treat it. You can't just throw it over the speed bumps like you could with the Fiesta, and you know it will attract the wrong sort of admirer, and one day you'll look out onto your drive and your porsche isn't there anymore.
And your enemies? Your porsche is your pride and joy, and so they know that if they really want to hurt you, they just give your porsche a damn good kick and then you're useless. You can't replace it with anything else because you've spent all your savings on the porsche and all your income goes on its upkeep.
Now if you shop around, you could get loads of good little Fiesta's for the same price, and they are reliable, and you could drive a different one every day, and if one breaks down, there's always another one on the drive. And sometimes, just sometimes, you pick up what you think is a little 1.2 Fiesta, but when you give it a run out, you realise that it has been badged up wrong, and what you've really got is a 1.6 Ghia.
Porsche versus Fiesta? Leave the porsches to the millionaires. I'm happy with a Fiesta.
