Top six 2005 - Trinity.: |

| Quote: Prince Buster "What would really priss me off is we go down is that we were in touching distance of getting ground improvements and that may have helped us turn the corner next season and maybe got the club moving upwards towards better things. We will get a new stand but in the championship things will become far harder to grow the club.
However the bit that could really hurt will be Fev taking our place, that will really hurt. Especially if they stay there a while and look down on us struggling in the championship.'"
I have no doubt if we went down we would be the strongest team in the championship and probably have the biggest budget or one of. It wouldnt be the end at all.

You forget we lose the Sky money, lower supporter revenue and will have to pay for the loan on the ground. I wonder if they would reduce season ticket and admittance prices to reflect our new status. We apparently have no money now so why should that improve in the Championship. I doubt we would run with a full time squad unless we receive outside financing but based on the success in this field over the last ten years whilst in SL this also appears unlikely.
The Championship would be a disaster and almost certainly mean starting again trying to sign players. I suppose it could be argued that we started this season with mainly a Championship squad and are continuing to add to this.

The problem for me is when we go down ,is we are a championship team now and not a good one. We need to rebuild big time but we are a team of old player's now so we got to get rid Plus I have no faith in these coaches to be up to the job

The way I see the Featherstone situation at the moment is this, Mark Campbell has put a great deal of his own money into his club, but recently has indicated that the Featherstone public are supporting enough and he’s fed up of propping up the club. If Featherstone don’t gain promotion this season, and the normal route to promotion is no longer there, will Campbell finally see his funding as a lost cause? They will score criteria points on some things, but few points on others. Without traditional P&R, there is no credible way of a guarantee to promotion, because I, like many others feel the IMG criteria is open to interpretation to suit certain clubs.

If Fev do take our place, will not care one bit ,as do not watch S L on T V .Got mates who have watch Dewsbury, and Keighley for a very long time and they say they just support there team and S L is overrated ,and just for teams with rich people in charge ..,and a more even game

When does the IMG scoring come in, if it’s season after next we might have 1 season in championship but a stronger B grading than other clubs.

Got to agree. It’s been in constant decline for the last 8 years for me. It’s no wonder why the sky deal is at where it is sadly. That for me was our life support being unplugged as a club in our position.

Perhaps Mark Campbell would have been better buying Trinity, when MC was touting the club for sale for £1.
Ready made SL club, probably requiring less investment than he is ploughing into Fev. No disrespect to Fev but which ever way you look at things Trin have far more potential than Fev for anyone who wants to invest in Rugby League.

| For me, the key is that investor, if they're out there.
If there is, and they come on board sooner, rather than later, we may be able to strengthen the squad somewhat, and maybe do just enough to save the season.
If not, and the worse scenario happens, then everyone becomes a free agent. There aren't many to be fair off contract this year that I'd look to keep. I would certainly look to keep our home grown players to start with. Add to this, some shrewd but experienced players with from the lower end of super league and top end of championship, we could have a very competitive championship side.
We are probably in a better position now, compared to 1995, to make a serious bid to get back into Super league,if we do it right.

Until said investor comes, we are potentially running £1 million behind a lot of teams. Think we’ve spent £1.7 million this year. Sadly so far it’s showing.

It's a reflection of the football situation I'd say. Certain clubs dictate the premiership, promoted clubs come up and struggle and eventually most go back down!
I know a lot of football supporters and they all say the Championship is more even and competitive.
Wouldn't bother me one jot to be honest if we go down, let's face it our core support shouldn't drop that much - we wouldn't be like Bradford losing thousands of supporters because we haven't had that many for donkeys years!

About 4 years ago, MC was on rugby AM, and he quoted that we were around £450k on the cap. In todays money, the limit is £2.1m. If it was that then, we were operating at £1.65m.
If we are at what you say of £1.7m, then we've several overpaid and under performing players on our books. It feels a lot lower than that, looking depth and quality wise.

We are also earning £500k less than those days due to reduced Sky money. So spending £1.7m doesn't seem likely.

I’m sure I heard MC say we are at £1.7 m this year, I could be wrong though. If it is lower, which like you say it does feel, then we are certainly around 1 million off the likes of Warrington, St’s, Wigan, Leeds, Hull fc etc with the Marquee rulings.
