| Quote thebeagle="thebeagle"Can anyone enlighten me as to why it is so wrong for one stand up for the traditions and beliefs that one was raised with.
All I ever ask for is fairness, not the suppression of the above feelings.
That has absolutely nothing to do with racial or religious prejudice.
The irony is that some sectors are allowed to vociferously and aggressively progress their beliefs.
On a personal level I have worked with and socialised with people from a wide variety of ethnic and religious backgrounds.
I say again fairness ,not political correctness.
Let's all hope that the above appertains as decisions are made which will affect so drastically the future of the Rugby League Club I love so much.'"
It's nothing to do with traditional beliefs or ethnicity. You need to think of the mosque in the same way as if it were, say, B&Q wanting to build a superstore that would attract custom to the area and jobs. That could gain much more local support from those people in Agbrigg who would benefit from having a new employer close by and the ability to buy a hammer at 8.45pm. As far as the Bank of Ireland are concerned, their duty is to their shareholders and to get the best possible price. As for those wanting a mosque, it's just a big fat parcel of land on their doorstep. The fact that they are muslims is irrelevant. It's the fact that there is land and another interested buyer.
The issue isn't that they are muslims. It's the fact that someone else owns that plot and owns Belle Vue, and the blame for that can be found in numerous steps in the last thirty years of Trinity ownership.

I don't envy what you have gone through in the slightest and have complete respect for all your efforts, please don't ever doubt that. I certainly wouldn't have had the patience. And you are correct that the alternative outcome doesn't bear thinking about. But as a word of caution what is supposed to happen in the ACV and what actually does on the qt are two completely different things, trust me i've seen it happen. In the end money talks and given who the opposition is it is that worries me more than it would if it was a commercial business or a developer who were in it for a profit. Everything is crossed for a fair fight and a positive outcome.

Jeez, if my auntie had balls she'd be my uncle!
If, but, maybe. I'm not going to explore all the possibilities on here, but I'm sure glad we've done what we have!

| I maybe off the mark but comparing a mosque to B&Q is a bit lop sided, I know a lot of people like to worship at B&Q on a Sunday and if your over 65, on a Wednesday.

I'm sure you are. I'll take your previous track record as a guide to whether i'll proceed with confidence.

In that case you won't mind me taking your track record in terms of contribution.
I'm a nobody, but I do try, and in trying we've kept this process alive when it could so easily have been buried long since!
There is still hope!

| I'm having a problem imagining the good people of Agbrigg forming a line outside B & Q with an application in hand. Interesting thought though.

We are all nobodies in the scheme of things, that is the problem, the players are the money men. Yeah there is hope and hell i desperatley hope we are successful but every bit of 'good news' we ever get tends to have lead us to absolutely nowhere other than back to square one hence my cynicism. And ACV's sound great on paper but in reality the effect they end up having is minimal in anything other than buying a bit of time. Thats handy to have yes but it isn't a game breaker, it still comes down to money at the end of the day. Been there, done it, seen the pub become a tesco. Still onwards and upwards. Hopefully.

You are right, it's no good on its own, but it is helpful towards the current situation. It's also taken some doing, so it's a small, but significant win. It also marks a genuine positive contribution from the much derided council!
Don't get me wrong, it doesn't absolve them of blame for where we are, but it could mark the beginning of a new attitdude towards resolving our situation!
