Perhaps it may be a type of severance package, usually made when both parties agree the best interest is for someone to leave their employment.

That works once you have started the role. Any new contract verbally agreed in advance with Chester wouldn’t come into being until 1st December so has no legal standing until that date. So now he’s left it isn’t legally binding.
It’s a nice thing to do and gives Chris some security but it is likely to come out of the playing and staffing budget for next year, which will impact us in some way.

Being offered a promotion which I don't think he had is not the same as being offered an extension to his existing contract which atm seems a bit vague, so until it's clarified that's assuming it ever will, I'd hold back a bit with the assumption that Carter doesn't know what the hell he's doing, because in my opinion he'll know exactly what he's doing, whether the fans are in agreement is another matter.

| I think MC knows exactly what he is doing and all what I have read above is pure speculation and guesswork. Which contract are the club honouring? has his present one expired yet? is that what MC is alluding to? I don't know, and frankly I don't care.
It's an issue between the employer of a private company and an employee. If it was a members club I may want to know more but it isn't.

Oops I've now read the OP properly and take the point - although I maintain it's an issue between them and I'm sure MC knows what he's doing.

It's not really speculation, Carter has said himself it's thenew verbally agreed deal he is honouring.

I think he probably would but let’s hope he doesn’t.

| Most terminations of contract have a severance included.
I'm glad Chester is being looked after.
If we want to attract new people, showing we care about the wellbeing of the employees is a great advert.

| At least it was a 1 year deal, that I could have just about stomached.

| How many sports managers and coaches get sacked without having their contracts paid off unless its gross misconduct or something really serious I would suggest all contracts get paid up. I get the presumption here is an agreed contract verbally for a year but nobody unless party to that agreement have a clue about the detail

Totally agree with that last sentence.
I’m not sure some people realise what a poor reputation in the sport Trinity used to have. It was deep seated and went much further back than Ted and Glover. Trinity lost is reputation with local business, players and many RL folk as far back as the late 1970!s.
Even now I still know people with a distrust of the club though in most cases not the darn right hostility there used to be. I know from personal experience a number of players whose family ties were Trinity through and through who none the less were advised by those same people not to join the club.
If MC has one great achievement under his belt it’s re-establishing Trinity as a club that can be trusted. He can’t please everybody but one day soon I suspect our new found credibility will pay dividends.
In this regard this action can only help. The sight of a young coach who was given five seasons to achieve though ultimately fail not being thrown to the wolves and looked after is a great advert and will most certainly stop anyone bad mouthing the club. So imho it’s a win for both parties.

| If Last is going to Castleford I suppose we could run with just one assistant coach which will part cover the outlay for paying Chester’s contract. This will at least give us an option to bring in a new head coach or if WP gets the job another assistant.
