| To be fair number 6 the question was asked if "it's a case of bad cycling" not that the accident was caused by a cyclist or any other matter.
I'm all for defending cyclist and drivers however we don't know the circumstances of the accident and nobody here has blamed anybody. A whole multitude of reasons could be the cause, a misplaced traffic cone perhaps, a bad driver, an animal on the road or maybe a case of bad cycling.

As long as they stick to their designated lanes or stay to one side so cars may past, and not wobble near the middle of enroad like a total biscuit.

Read your Highway Code, cyclists are allowed the same room as a car.
When you see a cyclist moving away from the kerbside it's generally to avoid a grate, a pothole or some debris like glass etc.
Show some patience!

| In my experience generally its for no clear reason.
More often than not I give way to cyclists because they aren't cycling safely. Annoying but better that than them or me getting hurt.
Having been on a cycling proficiency course it ought to be mandatory in my opinion for all cyclists. Perhaps made more accessible though.
Some bad drivers and equally cyclists out there. One ran a red light other day on Dewsbury road and almost caused a car to crash. I certainly think about cyclists and motorbikes on the road for my safety more than there's.
Getting side tracked lol
Back to the thread who knows what the cause is. Could be a number of things.

| Going back to the point of the pavements.
I am actually on foot around that area at rush hour and at the moment a lot of the pavements are actually out of use.

If only,
A lot of car drivers treat us cyclists with contempt not to mention that old chestnut we pay car tax and insurance you lot don't.
You don't see many bycyclists' in a hurry but most drivers are always flying about in a rush like they own the road and I'll just say this there are far more bad car drivers than poor cyclists, and I hope the Wakey players get well soon.

| Nothing to do with the road works, the incident happened on Kirkthorpe lane, on the first bad bend once you turn a left from Black Road. Don't know the extent of their injuries but they are lucky to be alive; their car didn't just hit one tree, it hit two, up rooting the second. Very lucky don't think any will be playing next week. Just hope they are ok. Lesson learnt I think!!!

| If this going to turn into a motorist / cyclist thread. What about red lights and one way / no entry streets? I see many cyclists not adhering to either.
As the report says Police would like to speak to a cyclist who was on the road at the time. It maybe they are a witness or a cause. Unless you were there and can say for sure what happened. Everything else is pure conjecture. The club have made a statement and most likely add to it when more information is available.

| This is one of the most ridiculous threads I have ever read on this site.
It's like a conversation from early doors.

This is especially true as winter approaches because very few bother with lights. The route from Snydale to the ASDA/NHS warehouses at Normanton must have the highest proportion of dumb cyclists in the country, between 5.30 and 6am. Fortunately it's mainly the pedestrians that have to worry as very few of the numpties use the roads.

That would make sense then, I don't think there are any mature trees until that bend.

| Without getting too off topic and turning the thread into something it isn't. I've seen the bashing cyclists thing from both sides.
I've been knocked off my bike 3 times in just the past couple of years & I only use the road to get to Mountain bike trails, mostly on the weekends and try to avoid them like the plague. All 3 times I got knocked off I was riding by myself down a straight road, against the kerb. All 3 times times drivers thought it was hilarious, usually when there's no other cars around, to see how close to me they could get before hitting my handlebars with their cars and not one of them stopped. Unfortunately it happens more than you would imagine on the roads, you get cars actually swinging into you just for the laugh.
Until I started riding again about 15 years ago, I like many drivers had a fairly low opinion of cyclists, but get on one and it soon changes. Conversely there are some terrible cyclists around, who don't know how to ride in a straight line, weaving around all over the place , making an overtake risky or thing like use roundabouts. Or like you say which is is the one that gets on my nerves the most, riders who don't own lights or keep lights on them when summer is coming to an end, riding in the dark. Straight up accidents waiting to happen.
