| Not a pointless discussion.
After all these years of nothing I am open to change.
Want success for the district.
If at my age I can be progressive why can't you Rebel.

I wasn't stating my personal opinion as such, mate. It's just that there have been so many threads on this subject over the years, mostly dependent on who's doing well, and who's in the dumps, and nobody really ever agrees.
There's nothing to suggest that we'd be in a better position as clubs if we did merge... only the notion that we'd share a massive pool of talent. But that would mean nowt if no one came to watch, because they couldn't identify with the team, for one reason or another.
I don't see Cas lads as that different to us, broadly speaking. But you can't overlook the local rivalry that no one in the world seems to understand other than us, Cas and Fev.

| If ever there was a time for all 3 Wakefield clubs to get round the table, it's now; none of us individually are wanted by SL, but together we'd be a different prospect and impossible to ignore.

Yep'"
Agree entirely. Common sense at last. South Yorkshire Demons or whatever with the other three clubs in the Championship with semi pro lads. Restricted promotion as well. Build something BIG at Newmarket or even Fev.

| I don't share this perception that none of the teams in the Wakey Cas Fev triangle are wanted in SL. They just want one of us to be seriously big. Merging won't necessarily achieve that goal, aside from which we could spend the next century arguing about where to play.

If you lost half of the masses from each club, you'd still be looking at 10,000 people; add in the curious newbies and the returning sulkers, and you'd be playing to 15,000 people every week.
The harsh reality is that the District can barely sustain 1 top flight club, let alone 3; as well as Fev have done, elevation to SL would be the death of them - they will never, ever get enough people through the gates to sustain a SL payroll.

| I'll counter your guestimate with my own, namely that if you got 5,000 for a merged team through the turnstiles of a brand new stadium, you'd have done fabulously well.

Again i think your right.
Take Wigan, when they moved from CP to the JJB,thousands of them hissy fitted and spit there dummy out,but once they realised what was actually happening with the new modern ground, slowly but surely they went back to the point were they're can practically garenttee 14k gates.
Its each to there own, but Personaly speaking the duel reg situation has made me realise the sport of RL is more important than THE club.
Time to move on and accept 'long term' theres no place for small, struggling clubs.

I can't agree. Most of the people who say they wouldn't come actually would - if it was done properly, I'd be confident of retaining half of the existing support of each club; the task then is to build on that, with success on the field being the most obvious route.
A SL team, a feeder team in the lower tier and the best jr pathways in the country; with the right people in charge, commercially, it would sell itself.
Maybe it's time for a revolution?

| Funny how I was talking to a lad on our street who is a Cas fan and he would go with the idea hes in his mid twentys.I would not go with the idea and never would and Im in my fiftys and talking to a lad at work whos a cas fan and he said andmeans like me he could never go with the idea and hes round my age.Reality says that if one got a sugar daddy and the other did not it could be the death of the other also looking at reality some day it will possibly come sooner than later.I would not be going to the games and its no use anyone saying I would because no matter how good that side became it would not be the side I have watched for years.

| Quote: Wakefield No 1 "Seems like we dont have many options left to us as a club so could a merger be on the cards? The nearest sl club to them could be the answer. Double SKY money for next year maybe available by two clubs joining together could see us through in 2014 and after that new investment should see a bright future, hopefully at Newmarket. More players available in the squad (ok not top quality ones but some aren't too bad..) Maybe we have to think 'out of the box' because this seems to be a tornado spiralling out of control which needs addressing fast!..'"
No1 I shall put the humble pie in on gas mar 4 .
Couldn't believe my eyes when I saw the opening poster but for the last 7/9 years (yep life before RLFans) the old guard were forever loading whatever from peashooters to nuclear weapons when ever I mentioned the much hated M word.
Question is a, who b, who tells em.
Remember distance is not relevant and I don't want shuddwoddywoody fans crying or old faithful with a gordey accent its just fact that you merged with a club with no relevance and from a different county to save the RFL embossment.
It will happen one day just like in a few decades or maybe sooner we will have just one code of rugby,
