| Quote: vastman "That's not what the scapegoat player is. It's the player some fans just choose not to like regardless of how he plays. Morton will be to blame for every loss we sustain this year even though as a winger he has a limited impact on most games according to them. Your honest critique is fine, but that's not what I'm on about, I'm on about certain fans need for a whipping boy.
I also have seen nothing from Morton to suggest he should command a first team spot. He is not as bad as some suggest and has been made to look poor on occasions by his equally inept team mates which is the Wingers curse. I say that because like many he's played most of his first team RL at the club at a time when things were not great so there is some mitigation.
For me his biggest problem is as Jack says he has no obvious physical attributes to compensate for his youthful inexperience. Do we have an alternative, I suspect we probably do. I wouldn't pick him if anyone was ever daft enough to let me or any fan pick a team but if he is picked I will give him my full support.
You talk some right crap at times, but I can't do anything but wholeheartedly 100% take my hat off to you for that post.
Well said.

| Vastman you are a cas fan & I claim my £5.
Why not go through the whole squad & slag em off one by one, or compare them to Tompkins & say they`re not up to his standard of play.
You could always prove Quinny wrong & actually put a pair of boots on.
What a stupid post to put out before a month before the season kicks off.

I think you have wildly missed the point of VMs post.
He hasn't slagged anyone off, just pointed out that some people have a default setting as far as having to havecsomeone to blame is concerned.
All players have weeknesses, DM is no different.
I don't understand how Vm putting a pair of boots on would prove Quinny right, as it's onl about VMs point of view, nothing to do with playing ability.
I think you may be confused.

| If for any reason Dale has any weak points is that he has a tenancy to jump defensive line and leave his wing man open,
give him open ground and he can shift

| Quote: REDWHITEANDBLUE "Have you taken time to look at Tommy Lees stas for last season?'"
I'd rather let my own eyes be the judge rather than look at stats, sometimes stats can be misleading. IMO Tommy Lee struggled to do the basics correctly and has no pace. The amount of points we scored last season shows how poor our half backs were. He is one of the poorest players I've ever seen in the R, W and blue.

He broke the line friday night and was caught twice through lack of pace, but in his defense he did manage to break one of the tackles, but he had a clear pitch in front of him and was caught very easily

| I think the likes of Tommy Lee and Julian O'Neill are the only true "Scapegoats" we've had in recent years. Morton is better described as a poor player with similar issues to Mark Field, ie not ready for regular 1st team Rugby but keeps getting put in the team by the coach. Don't know if Morton will ever be ready. Like Field, the pressure he's bearing is sending him backwards.
I personally dread to see his name on the team sheet.

Frankly you're a touch dim and clearly unable to read a post properly. Ditto Quinny who also likes to portray himself as some ex player still in the know.
So for the hard of thinking, I don't like players being picked on that is the point of the post . Fair un-emotive criticism is fine within reason. I hope just for once the mob don't find a players this season they can blame for everything and if they do then at least let it not be a young English player still learning his trade.
If you and your buddy wish to apologise I accept.

| This season is going to be a difficult one for the scapegoat of the year simply because of the quality of player we have this season compared to last. I have chosen one nomination because the Blaymire (now he has retired) hate squad need a new target. The season hasn't even kicked off yet and we have people picking Motu Tony ahead of this particular player, many of those people are the same ones who were ripping Tony apart when we signed him last season and then renewed his contract. Some have Cockayne selected ahead of him, despite a few of those not wanting him at the club in the first place.
So given that I would hereby like to take this opportunity nominate Richard Mathers, for the prestigious Wakefield Trinity Wildcats RLFans Forum Award for Scapegoat of the Year 2012.
PS for those too inept to understand this is not an official endorsement, it is posted in keeping with the what I believe was the initial meaning of this thread.

| Granted I’ve not been to either friendly so far, however of the games I’ve seen Morton play, I’ve see no justification for singling him out any more so than any other player with respect to errors. He had one major brain fart in the Cup last season, but other than that he has coped reasonably well in a position that for the past number of years has been notoriously over exposed at Wakefield.
Every single winger has come in for criticism, but time after time they are left with trying to deal with a three on one situation and so have to make an immediate decision on what to do, unfortunately every single choice will result in a score against competent opposition. Scoring opportunities were minimal with the reluctance (or inability post Brough) to spread the ball out wide so there was little chance to shine at the other end of the field, but in my mind Morton has always come across as a good finisher when given an opening.
He may need some time on loan/dual registration to rebuild his confidence or focus on areas of his game where he needs to work on, but should I see his name on the team sheet for Trinity, I certainly wouldn’t dread seeing it, no more so than any other player. Perhaps that incident in the cup is clouding people’s judgements?
