| Quote: vastman "PT is right on this one imho. From what I’ve seen I’m more impressed with Law than Pratt, but both are good for their age.
Truth is Croft was a 50/50 at best even before his agent cocked up. You watch him last year he could be mistake prone, far more so than Hall for example. He’d have struggled to get a starting place imho. I do agree he did improve a bit at the end of last year, there were glimpses.'"
Your back, did his agent make a mistake or did the incumbent’s running the club. We continued to pay them in order to try to receive compensation however we have now resigned him probably with an increase contract. What this means is that we have been paying for a player not to play only to realise our squad is so threadbare that someone had to eat quite a bit of humble pie speak to his agent and resign him with I guess his agent receiving a fee.
This as turned out to be basically a colossal waste of the club’s money and the player’s career just to probably feed an ego or two. I would remind the poster that these are the same people who thought it was a good idea to do a straight swap with Hull KR who I believed offered Salford a large transfer fee for one of their players.

Or, we saved money by not paying their inflated contract for a few months, effectively loaning them out for game time.
It's unlikely Shaw would have played much up to now and Croft maybe after Hall went but not exactly going to turn us into a winning side on his own.
Now we have centres injured there's room.
All depends how you want to spin it.

Clearly bags of potential but for those that know him well, is he ready for first team?'"
Probably not week in week out.
Quite a raw forward going on last year. He’s got the frame and I just feel he needs a couple of years and a few kilos and his direct style will become more effective as the years go by.
Would be a decent signing. Would be a good one to sign on a dual contract beyond this season and continue his development.

He was already signed we just chose to loan him out (using PT’s analysis).
The question is why now, MC’s well known personality traits would not allow him to dent his ego by bringing players back he didn’t want to resign. I suppose his squad strategy for this season now requires bolstering and considering he had been out manoeuvred by their agent he realised that we were never going to receive compensation and the money we were wasting we might as well play them.

At the fans forum, he said they looked at this week to week to decide if it was right to either let it go or sign him. They knew other clubs would jump in if they let them go for free. Now we can use Croft it's more worthwhile, and obviously Croft wants to play for the contract we've offered.
He wasn't signed. We just held his registration but he couldn't play unless he signed a new contract.

Would be surprised if we did as he'd probably be in the reserves for the majority of time. Was way off regular 1st team last season so he must have progressed some or be willing to pick up where he left off.

| I thought Isaac looked well for a young lad playing prop. Aggressive and direct. He will make a decent player in two or three years if he is developed properly and makes the right decisions.

| Who knows, the little spell abroad could have developed both players a little bit further.
Good move, this, I feel

| Shaw will have dropped further down the pecking order with Eseh’s emergence this year and would be nothing but a squad filler. He’d be a good signing with an eye on next year and beyond but i doubt he’ll make a great deal of difference this.

Loan to who ? Another competing championship team ? Think Croft and shaw show we are already looking at players for next season. Both be decent in championship and hopefully if we do get promoted will have a year of first team under their belts

| The thing that I don't get is that at the end of last season neither player was deemed good enough to be offered enough money for them to accept and now 6 months later they are. Its a bit like with Luke Gale, he was available before the start of the season yet we chose not to sign him then now all of a sudden he is being built up to be the savior. Now all 3 signings may work out but it seems like very poor planning.

Regarding Croft , I think it wasn't obvious then how poor Lyne, Taufua and Langi would turn out plus we then lose Hall. I thought he was at a suitable level to replace Lyne this season and was sad to see him go.
Could say similar about Gale.
Shaw would be the only one where we are planning for The Championship. That's not even considering the rumours regarding him being tapped up for elsewhere.

I don't think they are poor signings, especially Croft and Gale but they should have been made before the season started, not halfway through

Loan? Never mentioned a loan. Dual contract as in offers contractually for both SL or Championship if beyond 2023. Perhaps you thought I meant dual registration.
It doesn’t show we are looking at next season with Croft as he’s only signed till end of this season. That very much shows we are focusing on this season and the club think he can help performances. This is what some fans have been calling for.
Shaw hasn’t signed officially so at the minute it doesn’t show anything. If he or Croft do sign beyond 2023 then I’d be happy with both in either the championship (they would be good players in championship) or superleague. I do agree on that part.
