Our forwards are stood when receiving the ball most of the time, not running onto the ball .They then get tackled before building any momentum up ,which ends up putting the team on the back foot all too often this season .

I'd also say Cas defence was excellent. They shut us down from all angles.

That comment really does come home when you watch an NRL game. the forwards over there absolutely steam onto the ball at full pace and give themselves room to run on to the ball. All ours tend to be a bit stationary when they receive then set off, but by then the oppo defensive line is already on them. To me, it must be a coaching error in training that needs sorting and lets be honest about all the things that coaches work on this should be a simple fix. Tbh at this level it should be second nature. I don't know why the props aren't giving themselves an extra 2/3 meters to get up to speed before they take the short pass.

I've seen the stats now Tricky but the one thing that really surprised me was that Keegan Hirst only made 3 carries. Even if you add on the twice he knocked on that would only have been 5 carries. Having said that I'm not sure who does the counting as pauli seemed to to a lot more than 11 carries.

I don't particularly want to watch the game again but that stat sounds way off and I feel like punishing myself just to count Paulis carries. I'd have thought from watching he'd have had about that many in the 1st half tbh. To say he played the 80, that's like 1 carry every 7 minutes or so. icon_eek.gif

Definitely way off. There was one set we had on Cas line where he took 3 carriers (In one set!) It was quite clear the message at that point was to give it to Pauli to barge his way over as kept switching over to the blind side as we do with Fifita sometimes.

Interesting point this. I was on about this the other night as we try a similar ploy with Moors.

To me it seems like a play where, for cas at least, they're not sure what else to do.

Cause whilst it seems like it's a feasible option, I always say look at how many tries he scores at the end of the year. It won't be more than 2 or 3.

Most teams try it probably a dozen times a game but when you look at the try stats for props at the end of the year, if there was a way to compare it to the amount of times teams try it, I bet it's successful a really really low percentage of the time

Going back to 2012 or 2013 we tried a similar tactic with Kyle Trout of all people where we kept putting the same angled ball on where he hit the line at some pace, he got over once after trying about 8 times icon_lol.gif

The point of that move is to group the defenders at that point to stop him.
When the ball is then moved away there are not enoughdefenders to stop them.
We've scored tries off PP doing that this season.
It needs a quick PTB a la Big Dave to do it.

Kyle probably wasn't as effective because he didn't take as much stopping.

Nope! He was straight on his back pretty much every time. icon_lol.gif

Where is he these days!?

It's interesting how teams do it differently. We aren't as big in terms of kilograms as Wakefield are, so our forwards tend to barge their way towards a post a bit further out. It's usually Millington doing that job for us.

Wakefield put that play on much nearer the line. As do Leeds.

Subtle differences in how teams play is very interesting icon_smile.gif

Looking at what happened on the tackle after is likely to tell you more.

Subtle differences in how teams play is very interesting If it’s Kyle you are on about, he’s at dewsbury.
