Putting aside all the community elements, the council should be supporting financially one of the best adverts for the city around the world. How else would the city's name be mentioned in despatches around the country? The chance to represent the city as somewhere new and dynamic and forward thinking.

If it wasn't for rugby, the only reason people would know of Wigan would be a pot of poverty referred to by George Orwell. If it wasn't for rugby, St Helens would be completely unknown to anyone outside of the northwest. Most people have heard of them though, and the image presented is modern and successful, of excellence.

If the council let the club fail over the ground issue, they see the city diminish to one no one has never heard mentioned.

He does support his local team - Cas. icon_smile.gif

Dig aside Cas are the ultimate example of a very small place made to appear a lot bigger by its RL team ditto Fev which is little more than a street. Why he can't see the value of them all but especially the one that carries the councils name I don't know. I suspect its a mixture of corruption and blatant snobbery. Box may represent us plebs but I doubt he thinks he's one of us.

I completely agree with Vastman's comments....

I believe the area of Wakefield District near to the Newmarket development has over along period of time been under funded in terms of community facilities and for the council to gather any semblance of credibility then some sort of community facilities should be built near to the Newmarket development in accordance with the same time frame of the Belle Vue redevelopment. This would be in recognition of the council selling off the green belt lan at Newmarket and giving something back to the community rather than just a large monstrosity of an industrial building.

Even if they built the stadium/community facilities at newmarket, what the hell were they smoking when they signed the ok on that, I mean WTF, its not like its an area with existing development and thus ruined already, it was an oasis of green belt.
Yeah, we have to free up areas of GB for development, of course, but you'd have thought they'd keep the profile to a reasonable level so's not to entirely **** the landscape up for 30 miles in any direction, its an absolute ******* disgrace.
This one at 41 was bad enough but at least its an addition to existing commercial premises, though I still think they should have lessened its profile to fit with the existing development.
I see it most days, looming in the distance over farmland and still catch myself murmuring what the ****ing **** is that utter blight on humanity doing near my back garden.

Baring in mind it should be only have been 14m high but the planning application to change it to 42 m high was a double blow, 1 the ridiculous height and 2 allowing it to be allocated outside of the enabling development. Still need real reason given by the council was this was allowed.

14 to 42 ??.....just a small increase then......ffsake

I think we know what the reason is

and, I highly doubt they would have built it at 14 had they not been assured that its height could be increased further down the line

wink and a nudge an all that

just think how many square feet/metres it would have been at it's original height on the original development and some question whether WMDC have acted properly in all of this.
An innocent bystander mat have thought that moving this out of the original scheme may have disaggregated the original plan's, something which wasn't supposed to happen.

Why the sudden concern for the Newmarket area. This is new for many of you or is your sudden empathy with the area more to do with the council than the area.
If the full development including the stadium and other related builds had gone ahead how much more of the green belt would have been reclassified and destroyed. I don’t remember any concerns being raised then in fact many of you were openly appalled by the group set up to stop the development.
Newmarket is let’s face it in the wrong place, it borders Leeds and brings us nearer to Castleford. Belle Vue is our home and that is the site that will generate greater spectator numbers not a development that would be in the middle of large industrial units.
I get it you don’t like the council but please don’t try to use your sudden concern for the people of Newmarket as an excuse.
