People are on about ground shares and mergers, but there is one merger nobody talks about much.
Am I alone in being unable to stomach the idea of sharing anything with Cas but have no such qualms about sharing with Fev?
It's not ideal for either club but there are positives. Please believe me this is a last ditch solution but if we end up moving in with them then we may as well merge, for the sake of both clubs.
Featherstone IMHO would not be able to sustain a SL team alone - I think their more realistic fans see that. Likewise as it stands we won't be able to for much longer all be it for different reasons.
So here are the positives
1: Fev have a Stadium that could be upgraded at a cost that would not be beyond reach,.This doesn't mean that the council/developer shouldn't pay their wack but unlike BV it's at least feasible.
2: Fev have a decent fan base, combined with ours it would be quite handy.
3: Wakefield unlike Fev has the genuine potential to sustain a SL team and attract the corporate required.
4: Post office road is actually not that much further from the town centre than NM. Clearly access is not as good however it's still fairly accessible from either the M62 Normanton or Glasshoughton junction.
5: If the council can have 'provision' for parking near BV then I'm damn certain they can for Featherstone.
6: Featherstone has a direct train link to Wakefield Kirkgate I believe which is more than NM will ever have.
7: Fev produce a lot of players, fact.
8: Featherstone high street must be well overdue a re-development. A redeveloped that would be enhanced by an upgraded and far more commercially viable SL stadium.
God knows what you'd call the club but in an attempt to maintain some heritage and identity to each club both could run their own Academy under their original names.
The real downside and there are many is the risk that if success doesn't come it just ends up back as Fev but with a different name and ends up where Fev are now whilst we disappear altogether.
Jeez it's getting desperate.
