Maybe they're waiting for the RFL to make their move?
If they were to say that if there is no start to the new stadium before the end of next season then we would be relegated from SL. Could force their hand?
Not holding my breath though.

| So other than the apparent reluctance to help with the community stadium fiasco, the council are also happy to wave good bye to the pay as you play golf courses, fishing, tennis, bowls etc. under the name of 'budget cuts'. Almost seems like WDMC don't want sport to be part of the city anymore, or at least for it to be accessible by everyone.

I refuse to accept that a new community stadium with all it offers would not be financially successful for the people of Wakefield. This is a growing city and frankly the leisure facilities are pathetic.
If it was planned and designed correctly it could incorporate money spinning shops, restaurants etc.
The help and the interest from wmdc is also quite pathetic.

| To me the city fields development would be a perfect site, lots of space, good transport links. Put a small stadium in down there, with a few bars/pubs/restaurants by the canal, a gym etc.... and the development would absolutely take off... for case studies look at Leeds wharfe and Salford Queys but obviously on a smaller scale.

I don't imagine they are happy - but this is the reality of austerity Britain; 8 years of Tory/Coalition cuts to LA budgets, has seen them forced to cut their spending to public services, social care, schools and of course libraries, parks and leisure facilities. Risky to talk politics, but it's important to understand the bigger picture - and they are just facts, without any party political spin.

| Something that hasn't been mentioned is, I wonder how many construction jobs a Stadium would bring to this area

This will be the same austerity Britain that sees Gateshead building a new 18000 seat arena alongside The Sage and only 1 mile from Newcastle Arena.
Nothing to do with austerity and everything to do with political will and vision for a positive future for the city.

Will be mainly financed by private developers and various grants, will replace current arena. If only Wakefield council could encourage such investment

I don't know anything about how those developments were funded; wouldn't it be ironic if some European money was involved...? But I doubt the LA paid for it?
I'm in no way making excuses for WMDC - I agree that we are in a shameful position in the City in terms of sports and leisure facilities and are badly served by a leader who appears to direct his efforts based on self-interest and positive PR; but the comment I was replying to was about the wider picture in terms of LA budget cuts - which are just a reality - the settlement for LA's from central government has gone down year on year, hence the disappearance of many services and facilities.
On the point of political will - I tend to agree that there are plenty of things WMDC could do, short of paying for the thing, to get it moving; but they seem unwilling. Mr Box spent 2 years simply saying that it was nothing to do with the Council, only to change his tune when the national media got hold of it - once that died down, so did his commitment to getting a stadium built.

Correct. Scarborough FC, York City Knights and a plethora of other projects have occurred. This could be done if WMDC wanted it done

Scarborough funded largely by Scarborough Council and also from Funding from the FA Football Foundation grants system. But mainly the Council. An 18 million project

For me if you want to look at the bigger picture you need mention Tony Blairs government
Under labour he built a boom and bust economy which we are all now paying for
It wouldn't matter who was in power now
If you build an economy on debt eventually some one has to pay for it
